Assumption of the Government of New Zealand by the Earl of Ranfurly.

RANFURLY, Governor.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously pleased, by a Commission passed
under the Royal Sign-manual and Signet, bearing date at Saint James’s, the
sixth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven, to constitute and
appoint me, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, to be Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies :

Now, I, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim
and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before his Honour Sir
James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the said colony,
and that I have assumed the said office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over the Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies under and by virtue of
Her Majesty’s said Commission.

(L.S.) Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter
John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this tenth
day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and ninety-seven.
