in sealed envelopes, addressed to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and marked “Tender for lease of Cheviot woolshed.”

(2.) The lease shall be for a term of three years, dating from the 1st September, 1897. Possession will be given to the accepted tenderer on the 16th August, 1897.

(3.) The rent shall be payable half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st March and 1st September in each year.

(4.) The land shall be used for grazing purposes only, and not broken up or cropped.

(5.) The lessee shall be responsible for the safe custody and maintenance of the buildings, structures, and fences, and shall deliver up the same in good order at the termination of his lease. The lessee will also be responsible for the abatement of any nuisance in or about the premises or land.

(6.) The lessee will be required to insure and keep insured in the name of the Queen during the currency of his lease the woolshed and other buildings for the sum of £500.

(7.) The lease will be subject to a condition that the settlers on the Cheviot Estate shall have a right to the use of the shearing-shed, dip, quarters, and adjacent paddock during shearing-time; and that the lessee shall shear, class, and bale the wool of such settlers at a price not exceeding £1 10s. per hundred sheep, the owners of the sheep providing wool-packs.

(8.) The lessee shall, between the 1st January and 30th May in each year, permit settlers on the Cheviot Estate to have the use of the dip, and shall provide all materials necessary for efficiently dipping the sheep to the satisfaction of the Sheep Inspector, and also one man to assist, at a price not exceeding 5s. for the first ten sheep, and 2d. per head over that number.

(9.) A right of access to the telegraph-line which passes through the land is reserved by and on behalf of the Government. A right to search for and take gravel for making or maintaining roads is also reserved.

(10.) The lessee shall, at least once in every year, properly cut and trim all live hedges and fences, and clear out all drains and ditches running through the land, to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

(11.) The lessee shall, during the currency of the lease, clear all gorse, broom, sweetbriar, &c. (not growing as fences) and noxious plants, and keep the same from growing or spreading on the land.

(12.) The lessee shall be liable for all rates, taxes, and assessments during the term of the lease.

(13.) The late lessees have the right, for a period of one month from the commencement of the new tenant’s occupation, of removing from the land about 99 chains of fencing, a four-roomed cottage, and pound-shed, erected during their tenancy, and the successful tenderer will take subject to this right.

(14.) The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Rural Land, Wellington, open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

THE under-mentioned Crown land will be open for selection on lease in perpetuity on and after Wednesday, the 18th August, 1897. If more than one application be received for the same section on the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day at 10 a.m.

The section is weighted with £77 10s. for improvements, &c.

A half-year’s rent and £1 1s. lease-fee, together with the amount with which the section is weighted for improvements, &c., must be paid before the application can be approved.

The above section comprises rather broken land, the soil being fair, on a sandstone formation, covered with forest, except 35 acres which has been felled and sown with grass. The timber consists of rimu, rata, tawhero, &c., with an undergrowth of mahoe, konini, supplejack, &c. The land is well watered by creeks. The access is from Makuri Township, from which it is distant about 5 miles, 3½ miles by a main dray-road, and 1½ miles by a good pack-track.

Sections in the Opouriao Estate open for Selection under Lease in Perpetuity.

Section 8, Block IX., first-class alluvial flat; 91 acres grass, 8½ acres drained swamp, 13 acres low hills; fronting main road; nine miles from Whakatane.

Section 8, Block XIII., alluvial flat, in grass; fronting cross roads; ditch and hedge on west and south sides; no bush; soil excellent; eleven miles and a half from Whakatane.

Section 1, Block V., 20 acres good flat alluvial land in grass; 17 acres swamp, easily drained; 84 acres scrub and light bush; 87 acres fern hills. Well watered; fronting main road; six miles from Whakatane.

Section 16, Block XIII., 43 acres drained flat; 67 acres bush; 196 acres fern hills, broken at back, and hilly throughout. Eleven miles from Whakatane.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned reserve will be submitted for leasing for a term of fourteen years, under “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” at this office, on Friday, the 3rd day of September, 1897, at 11 a.m. :—

Raglan County, Parish of Karamu: Section 22, 15 acres 1 rood; upset annual rent, £3.

The landing reserve about one mile from Whatawhata.

Term of Lease.—Fourteen years, without any right of renewal.

No compensation for improvements during either the currency or on termination of the lease; but the lessee may remove any buildings or fences erected by him.
