the Dunedin Corporation Reserve into the City Road; thence down the City Road to Church Street, terminating at the junction of the City Road with Church Street: as more particularly shown on plans deposited at the Office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, and marked “P.W.D. 17869.”

  1. The said line of tramway may be single or double, with sidings where necessary, and shall consist of rails of such a gauge as will admit of the use thereon of carriages constructed for use upon a gauge of 3ft. 6 in., and where a double line shall be constructed the inner rails of such line shall be not less than 5ft. 9 in. and not more than 6ft. 6 in. apart, and with a slot ⅞ in. wide, situated in the centre of the space between the rails, opening into a tube, tunnel, or chamber, the slot and tube, tunnel, or chamber running longitudinally the whole length of the lines, with manholes or openings into the tube, tunnel, or chamber at intervals throughout the length of the lines.

  2. The rails to be used in the construction of the said lines of tramway and sidings shall be proper grooved steel tramway rails of a form to be approved of by the Surveyor of the said borough.

  3. The rails of the said lines of tramway and sidings shall be of such a form as shall have been submitted to, and approved by, the Surveyor for the time being of the borough, hereinafter called “the Surveyor,” and they shall be laid and kept on a level with the surface of the several streets through which the said tramway shall pass, so that at all times ordinary vehicles may cross the same with ease and safety.

  4. The power to be used upon the said tramway shall be electricity, gas, air, oil, or steam power, or all or any of them, at the option of the company; and if electricity, gas, oil, air, or steam be used within the said Borough of Roslyn, the engine or engines shall be stationary, with endless wire cable.

  5. Each tramcar shall be fitted with two complete sets of substantial and efficient brake-gear, the details of which shall be approved by the Engineer-in-Chief for the colony for the time being. All the carriages shall be fitted with powerful brakes, subject to the same approval.

A general description of the lands required to be taken is as follows: Parts of Allotments 4, 8, 13, and 14 of the Otago Presbyterian Church Board’s subdivision of Section 23, Block IV., Upper Kaikorai District; also, part of Allotment 16 and all of Allotments 17, 42, 43, and 44 of the subdivision by the Dunedin City Corporation of Sections 1 and 2, Block IV., Upper Kaikorai District.

All persons affected are hereby called upon to set forth in writing any well-grounded objection to the execution of such works or to the taking of such lands, and to send such writing within forty days from the first publication of this notice to the Roslyn Borough Council, Roslyn.

THE DUNEDIN AND KAIKORAI TRAMWAY.

In the matter of “The Tramways Act, 1894,” and “The Public Works Act, 1894.”

NOTICE is hereby given that a plan showing the lands required to be taken for the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tramway within the City and Town Belt of Dunedin, together with the names of the owners and occupiers of such lands, so far as they can be ascertained, is open for inspection by all persons, at all reasonable hours, at the office of the Town Clerk of the City of Dunedin.

A general description of the works proposed to be executed is as follows:—

  1. The construction of a line of tramway, commencing at a point on the produced line of Stuart Street distant 80 links east from the west building-line of the Octagon; thence along the centre of Stuart Street to the western side of Albert Street, curving from Stuart Street into Albert Street; thence along Albert Street to London Street; thence curving into a diagonal line through Sections 5 and 6, Block XIX., in the Town of Dunedin; and thence across, over, and upon the Town Belt of the said City of Dunedin and the roads thereon to the boundary of the said Town Belt, terminating, so far as the City of Dunedin is concerned, on the boundary of Section 23, Block IV., Upper Kaikorai District, about 128 links from the north-east corner of the said section: as more par-

ticularly shown on plans deposited at the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, and marked “P.W.D.” 17829 and 17868. The large sheave or pulley to be built in a recess or chamber the centre of which is to be distant about 10 links further east than the commencing-point of the rails, and from this chamber the two rope-tunnels or chambers are to commence.

  1. The said line of tramway will be double, and shall consist of rails at such a gauge as will admit of the use thereon of carriages constructed for use upon a gauge of 3ft. 6 in., and the inner rails of such line shall be not less than 5ft. 9 in. and not more than 6ft. 6 in. apart, and with a slot ⅞ in. wide, situated in the centre of the space between the rails, opening into a tube, tunnel, or chamber, the slot and tube, tunnel, or chamber running longitudinally the whole length of the line, with manholes or openings into the tube, tunnel, or chamber at intervals throughout the length of the line.

In the matter of “The Companies Act, 1882”; and in the matter of “J. Bayley and Company (Limited).”

NOTICE is hereby given that at a general meeting of the shareholders of “J. Bayley and Company (Limited),” held at Burnside on Saturday, the 12th day of June, 1897, the following extraordinary resolution was passed:—

“That it has been proved to the satisfaction of this meeting that the company cannot, by reason of its liabilities, continue its business, and that it is advisable to wind up the same, and accordingly that the company be wound up voluntarily.”

And at the same meeting Peter Barr, of Dunedin, Accountant, was appointed Liquidator for the purposes of such winding-up.

NOTICE is hereby given that a General Meeting of the shareholders “J. Bayley and Company (Limited)” will be held at the company’s office at Burnside on Saturday, the 2nd day of October, 1897, at the hour of 2.30 in the afternoon, for the purpose of receiving the account of the Liquidator showing the manner in which the winding-up has been conducted and the property of the company disposed of, and of hearing any explanation that may be given by the Liquidator.
