Land taken for a Road in the Hokonui Survey District, Southland County.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken, under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” for a certain work, to wit, the construction of a road through Sections 258 and 304, Hokonui Survey District: And whereas the Southland County Council has laid before the Governor the memorial, accompanied by a map, and also the statutory declaration, required by the said Act: Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date of the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are hereby taken for the purposes of the construction of the said road.

In the Southland Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked as above mentioned, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured as above stated.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, Administrator of the Government in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, at the Government House, at Wellington; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this seventh day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.

Defining the Middle Line of Further Portion of the North Island Main Trunk Railway, from a Point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and the Ongaruhe River Valley (Pouwhakarua–Otaihape Section).

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the North Island Main Trunk Railway, from a point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumaranui, and the Ongaruhe River Valley, is one of the railways specified in the Schedule to “The Railways Authorisation Act, 1884,” which Act is, in the eighth section thereof, declared to be a special Act authorising the construction of such railway; and such railway is unfinished, and it has been determined to construct and maintain a further portion of the same: Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the aforesaid section eight of “The Railways Authorisation Act, 1884,” and by section one hundred and sixty-seven of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and in exercise of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line of the said further portion of the said railway shall be as defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

Commencing at a point in the Pouwhakarua No. 1 Block, in the Hautapu Survey District, distant about 20 chains in a north-easterly direction from the south-eastern corner of Pouwhakarua No. 2 Block, which point is also the termination of a portion of the said railway, as described in a Proclamation dated the 3rd February, 1892, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 34, of 28th April, 1892; proceeding thence generally in north-easterly and north-westerly directions for a distance of 15 miles 70 chains or thereabouts, and passing in, into, through, or over the following lands—viz., Pouwhakarua Block No. 1, Railway Reserve, Sections Nos. 35, 36, 39, 13, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Masterton-Tenui Improved Farm Association, and the following subdivisions of Awarua 4c No. 3—viz., Subdivisions Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, all in the Hautapu Survey District—also through subdivisions of the said Awarua 4c No. 3—viz., Nos. 12, 13, and 15—and Crown lands Awarua 4c No. 1, 4a No. 1, and 4a No. 3a, all in the Ohinewairua Survey District—and terminating at a point on the northern boundary of the said
