has, in pursuance of the provisions of section 41 of
“ The Harbours Act, 1878,” and of all other powers enabling

JAMES CHARLES PATERSON

to be a member of the Wanganui Harbour Board, the
Wanganui County Council having neglected to elect a mem-
ber in place of Mr. Alexander Higgie, resigned.

HIS Excellency the Administrator of the Government
has been pleased to approve of the appointment of

V.D. Lieut.-Colonel the Honourable JAMES ALEXANDER
BONAR, New Zealand Volunteers, &c.,

to the temporary command of the Nelson Militia and Volun-
teer District during the absence of the officer commanding
(Lieut.-Colonel Albert Pitt), in command of the detach-
ment of New Zealand Volunteers now in England. Appoint-
ment to date from the 30th April, 1897.

as from the 17th June, 1897.

Amendments to New Zealand Dress Regulations.

Wellington, 29th June, 1897.

HIS Excellency the Administrator of the Government
has been pleased to approve of the following amend-
ments in the Dress Regulations for the New Zealand
Forces, 1895 :—

(1.) Page 10, lines 10 and 11: Delete from “ The stripe ” to
“ Service,” and substitute “ Trousers as worn in the Im-
perial Service.”

(2.) The pleats in front of uniform jacket (Norfolk-jacket
pattern) are to be sewn up.

(3.) The collar of the jacket is to be extra stiffened with
buckram.

Volunteer Corps detached from Battalion.

HIS Excellency the Administrator of the Government
has been pleased to approve of the under-mentioned
Volunteer corps being detached from the Canterbury Bat-
talion of Infantry Volunteers, as from the 10th June,
1897 :—

Canterbury Engineer Volunteers,
Timaru Naval Artillery Volunteers,
Temuka Rifle Volunteers,
Ashburton Rifle Volunteers,
Timaru Rifle Volunteers, and
Waimate Rifle Volunteers ;

and also to approve of the designation of the present “ Can-
terbury Battalion of Infantry Volunteers ” being changed to
the “ North Canterbury Battalion of Infantry Volunteers,”
with effect from the 10th June, 1897.

Major WALTER MONTAGUE MOORE

being removed from the Unattached Active List, New Zea-
land Volunteers, on being appointed to the command of the
South Canterbury Battalion of Infantry Volunteers, with
effect from the 10th June, 1897.

Formation of Infantry Volunteer Battalion.

Wellington, 29th June, 1897.

HIS Excellency the Administrator of the Government
has been pleased to approve, under paragraphs 211
and 213, Volunteer Regulations, 1895, of the formation of
the under-mentioned Volunteer corps in the Canterbury
District into an Infantry Battalion under the designation
of the “ South Canterbury Battalion of Infantry Volun-
teers,” with effect from the 10th June, 1897, and with head-
quarters at Timaru,—

Timaru Naval Artillery Volunteers (to be formed into an
infantry corps),
C Battery Artillery Volunteers (to be formed into an
infantry corps),
Temuka Rifle Volunteers,
Ashburton Rifle Volunteers,
Timaru Rifle Volunteers,
Waimate Rifle Volunteers ;

and to appoint

Major WALTER MONTAGUE MOORE, New Zealand Volun-
teers,
