Proroguing the General Assembly.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS, by an Act passed in the Parliament holden in the fifteenth and sixteenth years of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled “An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand,” it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor may, at his pleasure, prorogue the General Assembly of New Zealand:

Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the herein-before-recited power and authority, and of every other power and authority in this behalf enabling me, do hereby proclaim and declare that I do this day prorogue the General Assembly of New Zealand until Thursday, the tenth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven; and the said General Assembly is hereby prorogued accordingly.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, Administrator of the Government in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, at the Government House, at Wellington; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this twelfth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.
