Conferring Jurisdiction on Native Land Court.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
second day of March, 1897.
Present:
His Excellency the Administrator of the Government
in Council.
WHEREAS by section fourteen of "The Native Land
Court Act, 1894," it is enacted that the Native Land
Court shall, as regards all lands within the meaning of sub-
section ten of section fourteen aforesaid, have jurisdiction as
in the said subsection mentioned: Provided that the Court
shall not proceed to exercise such jurisdiction unless the
Governor in Council shall by order authorise the same to be
done:
And whereas the land specified in the Schedule hereto is
land in respect whereof the Court has jurisdiction as afore-
said, and it is expedient that the Court should be authorised
to exercise the same:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Administrator of the
Government of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby authorise the said Court to exercise in
respect of the said land the jurisdiction conferred as aforesaid
—that is to say, to determine whether or not the said land or
any part thereof was, on the investigation of title thereto,
intended by the Native Land Court, or by the nominal owner
or owners of such land, to be held by such nominal owner or
owners in trust for Natives not named in the title, and to
determine who are the Natives (if any) entitled beneficially
to such land, and to order the inclusion of such Natives in
the title, either together with or in lieu of the nominal
owners or any of them, and for the purpose aforesaid to
order the cancellation or amendment of any existing instru-
ment of title, and the issue of such new Crown grants or other
instruments of title as may be necessary, and generally to
exercise in respect of the said land all the jurisdiction and
powers conferred on the Native Land Court by subsection
ten of section fourteen of "The Native Land Court Act,
1894."
SCHEDULE.
All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Hawke's
Bay situate at Wairoa, and known as the Wharepu No. 1
Block, containing 42 acres 2 roods 1 perch, more or less.

Charges and Regulations for Use of Telephones.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
second day of March, 1897.
Present:
His Excellency the Administrator of the Govern-
ment in Council.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by
"The Electric Lines Act, 1884," and of all other powers
enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency Sir James
Prendergast, Knight, Administrator of the Government of
the Colony of New Zealand, doth, with the advice and con-
sent of the Executive Council of the said colony, hereby
make the regulations and prescribe the fees and charges con-
tained in the Schedule hereto in relation to the use of the
Government telephones wherever established in this colony
in connection with the telephone exchanges and otherwise;
and doth further order and declare that such regulations,
fees, and charges shall take effect on and after the first day
of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven, and
shall, on and from such last-mentioned date, supersede all
prior regulations made in relation to charges for the use of
telephones within the colony in connection with telephone
exchanges and bureau stations and for private wires.
SCHEDULE.
REGULATIONS.
- At any place where telephone exchanges have been esta-
blished, Edison-Bell or any other approved telephones con-
ected with the exchanges will be placed in offices or private
residences within three miles of the central office, so that
subscribers can converse with other subscribers at their
offices or residences. - Every person desiring to hire any telephone instruments
or set of telephones connected with a telephone exchange
shall make application to the Superintendent of Electric
Lines on the form supplied for that purpose by the depart-
ment. - All applicants for a first connection with a telephone
exchange, in addition to the rates in force for connection
with an exchange, will be required to pay an entrance-fee
of £1 when delivering the application for connection. - Subscribers at each exchange will be furnished with a
list of persons with whom they may communicate by tele-
phone, and, as new subscribers are connected with the system
from time to time, notification of the fact will be given by
the department. - The Electric Telegraph Commissioner or Superin-
tendent of Electric Lines may refuse to connect with the
telephone exchange any place of business, house, or premises
which in the opinion of the Commissioner is or are used for
any illegal, immoral, or improper purpose, and may, either
with or without previous notice, exclude from the telephone
exchange any subscriber who allows the telephone instru-
ments in his custody or control to be damaged or destroyed,
or put to any improper use, and may remove or cause to be
removed any instruments allotted to the use of such sub-
scriber. No person shall have any claim for damages or
otherwise whatsoever in consequence of the refusal of the
said Commissioner or Superintendent to connect any place
of business or house with the exchange for any of the causes
aforesaid, or in consequence of the removal of any instru-
ments, or the exclusion of any subscriber as aforesaid.
