Defining the Middle Line of a Further Portion of the North
Island Main Trunk Railway, from a Point at or near
Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and
the Ongaruhu River Valley (Ohinemoa Section).

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the North Island Main Trunk Railway,
from a point at or near Marton to Te Awamutu,
via Murimotu, Taumarunui, and the Ongaruhu River Valley
(hereinafter termed "the said railway"), is a railway the
construction of which is authorised by "The Railways
Authorisation Act, 1884," which Act is, in the eighth section
thereof, declared to be a special Act authorising the con-
struction of such railway: And whereas the said railway
has been partly constructed, and it has been determined to
construct and maintain a further portion of the same:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on me by
the aforesaid section eight of "The Railways Authorisation
Act, 1884," and by section one hundred and sixty-seven of
"The Public Works Act, 1894," and in exercise of every
other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this
behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line
of the said further portion of the said railway shall be that
defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
Commencing at a point in the Rangitoto-Tuhua Native
Block No. 6039, situated in Block XIII., Mapara Survey
District, the said point being identical with terminal point of
the Poro-o-tarao Section of the above-mentioned railway—
described as being situated in Block VI., Ongaruhu Survey
District, in a Proclamation dated the 14th day of July, 1888,
and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 41, of the
19th July, 1888; proceeding thence generally in a southerly
direction for a distance of about 4 miles 6 chains, and
passing in, into, through, or over the following land—viz.,
the said Rangitoto-Tuhua Native Block No. 6039, situated
in Block No. XIII., Mapara Survey District, and Block
No. III., Tangitu Survey District, including all adjoining
and intervening places, roads, tracks, streams, rivers, and
watercourses—and terminating at a point in the portion of
the said Rangitoto-Tuhua Native Block No. 6039, situated
within the said Block No. III., Tangitu Survey District,
distant about 43 chains in a south-westerly direction from
the junction of the Ohinemoa Stream with the Ongaruhu
River, all in the Land District of Wellington, in the manner
delineated on a plan marked P.W.D. 18049, a copy of which
is deposited in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme
Court at Auckland.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly;
Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished
Order of Saint Michael and Saint George;
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over
Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this twenty-third day of November,
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun-
dred and ninety-seven.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto
has been acquired under the provisions of "The
Land for Settlements Act, 1894" (hereinafter termed "the
said Act"), and the purchase thereof has been concluded as
by the said Act is provided: And whereas it is enacted by
the said Act that all land so acquired shall be proclaimed as
Crown land subject to the provisions of the said Act:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise
and pursuance of the power and authority conferred by
the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land
described in the Schedule hereto shall, on the date of the
publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, be and be
deemed to be Crown land subject to the provisions of "The
Land for Settlements Act, 1894."
SCHEDULE.
TOMOANA SETTLEMENT.
All that area in the Hawke's Bay Land District, containing
by admeasurement 111 acres 3 roods 38 perches, more or
less, situated in Block XVI., Heretaunga Survey District,
and being Subdivision 112 of Lot 2 of Subdivision D of the
Heretaunga Block. Bounded on the north-east by a drain
reserve, 15 links wide; on the south-east by other portion of
