THE following notice, received from the Chairman of
the Akaroa County Council, is published in accordance
with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL.
RESULT of poll on the proposal to borrow £2,500, under
"The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886," for the erection of
works to keep Lake Forsyth at a permanently low level,
taken by the Akaroa County Council, on the 4th December,
1896:
Total number of ratepayers on roll, 521; total votes
exercisable by them, 935: For the proposal, 222 voters cast
403 votes; against it, 60 voters cast 113 votes; 232 rate-
payers did not vote, and their 411 votes were not recorded;
8 papers were informal.
A majority not having declared themselves in favour, I
hereby declare the proposals to be be not carried.

Special Order made by the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board,
County of Wairarapa South.

THE following special order, made by the Taratahi-
Carterton Road Board, is published in accordance
with the provisions of "The Road Boards Act, 1882."

SPECIAL ORDER.
THAT, for the purpose of providing the annual interest and
charges upon a loan of £300, to be raised under the pro-
visions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886," and "The
Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," for the pur-
pose of constructing a cart-traffic road from the north-
western corner of Allotment 23 of Section 238 to the south-
western corner of Allotment 30 of Section 238, and a cart-
traffic road from Brooklyn Road to the northern boundary
of Section 237, this Board now do strike and levy by special
order a special rate of 1/4d. in the pound equally over all
rateable properties within No. 6 Subdivision of the Taratahi-
Carterton Road District, and that such special rate be
annually recurring for twenty-six years, and be payable in
half-yearly instalments on the 1st day of December and July
in each such year.
The foregoing special order has been duly passed by the
Taratahi-Carterton Road Board at a special meeting held
the 10th day of October, 1896, and duly confirmed at another
special meeting held the 14th day of November, 1896.

Fallow Deer liberated in the Grey Acclimatisation District to
be vested in the Grey District Acclimatisation Society.

HIS Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified
that fallow deer have been turned at large in the
County of Grey, and that the property in such deer and
their offspring is deemed to be absolutely vested in the
Chairman of the Grey District Acclimatisation Society for
a period of three years from the date hereof, as provided by
section 38 of "The Animals Protection Act, 1880."

Time and Place for the First Meeting of the Contributors to
the Reefton Ladies' Benevolent Society appointed.
Lunacy and Charitable Department,
Wellington, 23rd December, 1896.
HIS Excellency the Governor has, in terms of section
49 of "The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions
Act, 1885," appointed Friday, the 8th day of January, 1897,
at 3 o'clock p.m., to be the time, and the County Council
Chambers, Reefton, to be the place, for the first meeting of
the contributors to the Reefton Ladies' Benevolent Society.

By-laws regulating Traffic on the Tirau-Rotorua Road, Tauranga-Napier Road, Taupo-Tokaanu Road, Lichfield over Maungaiti to Ati-a-muri Road, and Taupo by way of Wairakei to Puketarata Road ; also Rotorua-Galatea Road, and its Extension to Tarapounamu, and the Part of the Maketu-Rotorua Road between the Waiwhakaretu Stream and Rotorua ; also Part of Rotorua-Te Teko Road, from its Junction with the Rotorua-Maketu Road to a Point due South of Trig. Maungawhakamana.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred
by section 130 of "The Public Works Act, 1894," and
section 2, subsection (1), (a), of "The Public Works and Government Railways Acts Amendment Act, 1895," I, John
McKenzie, Minister of Lands, do, in respect of the Govern-
ment roads from Tirau to Rotorua, the Government road
from Tauranga to Napier, the Government road from Taupo
to Tokaanu, the Government road from Lichfield over Maungaiti to Ati-a-muri, and the Government road from Taupo
by way of Wairakei to Puketarata, and also on the Government road Rotorua to Galatea, and its extension to Tarapounamu, and that part of the Maketu to Rotorua Road
between the Waiwhakaretu Stream and Rotorua, also part
of Rotorua-Te Teko Road from its junction with the
Rotorua-Maketu Road to a point due south of Trig. Maungawhakamana, hereby classify the vehicles mentioned below,
and do hereby make the following by-laws in respect of the
same, that is to say:

PASSENGERS ONLY.

The "carrying-capacity" of each such vehicle as aforesaid
is to be ascertained by allowing to each passenger, when
seated, 1ft. 4in. superficial (measured lengthways) of the
seating-accommodation actually and usually provided in or
on such vehicle.
