Returning Officers appointed for Maori Electoral Districts.
GLASGOW, Governor.
IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Electoral Act, 1893,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint the following persons to be Returning Officers for the Maori Electoral Districts hereinafter mentioned:—
For the Northern Maori Electoral District—
James Stephenson Clendon.
For the Eastern Maori Electoral District—
James Booth.
For the Western Maori Electoral District—
George Thomas Wilkinson.
For the Southern Maori Electoral District—
Helyar Wedderburn Bishop.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twentieth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.

Writs for the Election of Members of the House of Representatives for Maori Electoral Districts.

THE following writs for the election of members of the House of Representatives of New Zealand for the several Maori electoral districts constituted under “The Maori Representation Act, 1867,” are published in the New Zealand Gazette in accordance with the provisions of “The Electoral Act, 1893.”

VICTORIA, by the grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the Islands of New Zealand, &c., Queen:
To JAMES STEPHENSON CLENDON, Esquire, Returning Officer for the Northern Maori Electoral District: Greeting.
WHEREAS it is necessary that an election of a member of the House of Representatives of New Zealand shall take place: Now, therefore, we do hereby require and command you to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law and regulations in this behalf prescribed, a legally-qualified person to serve as a member of the said House of Representatives for the Northern Maori Electoral District: And we do hereby further require and command that you cause the nomination of the said member to be at the Courthouse, Kororareka, on the third day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six, and the polling, in case it shall be required, to be at the several polling-places on the nineteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six; and that this our writ, with the name of the person so elected indorsed thereon by you, shall be returned to us here on or before the eleventh day of January, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.
In witness whereof His Excellency David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand, has caused the Public Seal of the Colony of New Zealand to be hereunto affixed, at Wellington, the twentieth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.
