Rural Lands in the Otago Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the thirtieth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Two-thirds of this section is agricultural, remainder good grazing; watered. Situated about three miles and a half from Kurow. Valuation for improvements, payable with application or immediately the result of the ballot is declared, £91 15s.

This is a good bush section; well watered. Fronting the Catlin’s River, and situated in the Upper Catlin’s Valley, about five miles and a half from Catlin’s Bridge. Valuation for house, yards, shed, clearing, &c., £255, which amount must be lodged with the application or paid immediately the result of the ballot is declared.

Land of fair quality, carrying light timber; well watered. Situated about four miles and a half from Ratanui Post-office and School. Valuation for improvements, to be lodged with the application or paid immediately the result of the ballot is declared, £32 5s.

Undulating bush land of good quality. Situated about eight miles from Catlin’s Bridge, and twelve miles from Owaka. Altitude, 300ft. to 500ft. The bush on all these sections has been felled, and the greater part of each section has been laid down in English grass. Valuation for improvements, payable with application or immediately the result of the ballot is declared, is as follows: Section 14, £39 2s.; Section 17, £2 10s.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Section 7, Block III., level undulating land, portion arable, but generally of a dry nature and gravelly; situated about one mile and a half from Hawea Bridge, and about four miles from Albert Town; valuation for improvements, £14. Section 15, Block IV., shingly land of dry nature; situated about thirty-eight miles from Cromwell. Section 20, Block V., about one-fifth of this section is good land, fit for cultivation, and the remainder is fair grazing, but rather dry; situated about thirty-six miles from Cromwell; valuation for improvements, £138 15s. Sections 22 and 23, terrace land, shingly; situated about thirty miles from Cromwell, and five miles from Newcastle; valuation for improvements—Section 22, £73 13s.; Section 23, £51 15s. Sections 3 and 4, Block VII., open terrace land of poor quality; situated near Hawea Flat, about thirty miles from Cromwell; valuation for improvements—Section 3, £25; Section 4, £45.

Valuation for improvements, payable with application or immediately the result of the ballot is declared, is as follows: Block V.—Section 6, £149 7s. 6d.; Section 7, £54 19s.; Block VI.—Section 2, £6 2s. 6d.; Section 3, £9 14s.; Section 4, £6 6s.; Section 5, £22 3s.; Section 6, £11 11s.
