NOTICE is here by given that the several matters mentioned in the Sched ule hereunder written will be heard by the
Nati ve Land Court sitting at Palme rston North on the 27th day of November, 1896, or as soon therea fter as the
busi ness of the Court will allow.

IN THE V ALIDATION COURT,
HOLDEN AT G ISBORNE.
In the matter of " The Nati ve L and (V alidation of Titles)
Act, 1893 " ; and in the matter of the P ar itu No. 4 B lock.
A. I, W ILL IAM COOPE R, of W ainui, in the County of
Cook, in the Provi ncial District of A uckland, shee p -
fa rmer, apply, under the above - mentioned Act, for the valid a -
tion of six of the interests in 822 a c res, more or less, being all
that pa rcel of land situate in the County of Cook, in the
D istrict of Pover ty Bay, and being Subdivis i on N o. 4 of the
Par itu B lock, and being a portion of the land comp rised
and described in certificate of title, Vol. xv., folio 168, in the
books of the Regi strar of Lands for the District of H awke's
B a y, and being the land more pa rti cularly delineated and
descri bed on deposited Plan No. 785.
B. The applica n t desi res to appear before the V alidation
C ourt on Tuesday, the 1st day of December, 1896, at the hour
of 10.30 o'clock in the forenoon, or at the first sitting of the
C ourt therea fter.
C. The nature of the transact i on proposed for validat i on
are certain ag reements or cont racts bea ring date in or about
the month of March, 1883, and made between E ru Pohatu,
Wi K aipuke, H emi W aaka, K eita K enana, all of G isbor ne,
O tene Pomare and A reta A patu, both of W airoa, H awke's
B a y, all aboriginal 'natives, of the one part, and Robert
Cooper, late of G isbor ne, settler, de ceased, of the other part.
The conside ra ti on agreed upon between the said parties was
the amounts set out in the ag reements or cont racts here in -
before mentioned.
D. The land which is intended to be al ienated is a sub -
divis i on of the Par itu B lock, called Par itu No. 4, such
subdivis i on containing by admeas urement 822 a c res, more
or less ; and the title thereto of the al ienors at the time of
the said al ienation was found ed on a memor ial of ownership
dated the 3rd day of March, 1883.
E. The estate or interest in the said Par itu No. 4
B lock which the applica n t seek s to obtain through the aid
of the Court is an estate of freehold.
F. The manner in which the applica n t came to be invest ed
with the title he now holds is as follows :—
(1.) The ag reements or cont racts herei nfor e recited, of in
or about the month of March, 1883.
(2.) Deed of con veyance and confi rma ti on, da te d the 1st
day of June, 1892, made between H ami te H au
and O tene Pomare, both of N u haka, in the
Provincial District of H awke's B a y, aboriginal
natives, of the one part, and the said Robert
C ooper of the other part.
(3.) Deed of con veyance and confi rma ti on, da te d the 2nd
day of July, 1892, made between Matutaera K a i -
puke and W i remu K aipuke, both of M urewai, in
the Provi ncial District of A uckland, aboriginal
natives, of the one part, and the said Robert
C ooper of the other part.
(4.) Deed of con veyance and confi rma ti on, da te d the
2nd day of July, 1892, made between K eita
K enana (K a te G annon), of G isbor ne, wife of
M ichael Joseph G annon, of G isbor ne aforesaid,
license d i nterpr eter, of the one part, and the
said Robert C ooper of the other part.
(5.) P robate of the will of the said Robert C ooper, issued
in favour of the applica n t.
G. The address for service of the applica n t in the Town of
G isbor ne, where notices, orders, and other documents may
be served upon him by leaving the same for him at such
place, is at the offi c es of M essrs. R ees B rothers, soli c itors,
situate in Lowe Street, G isbor ne aforesaid.
H. The applica n t desi res the estates and interests of the
sever al N ative persons mentioned in paragraph c of this ap -
plica ti on as being the persons execu ti ng the said ag reements
or cont racts of in or about the month of March, 1883,
together with their rep resen tatives, bound by the decrees of
the Court, and for that purpose requires that copies of this
applica ti on shall be served on them. The names of the
person s upon whom the applica n t requires that copies of the
applica ti on shall be served are the persons mentioned in
parag raph c hereof and also the following persons : D uncan

B a n k of New Zeal and, H amiora M angak a hia, M erenia N ga -
ra ngione, T iopera P ohatu, H enare P ohatu, H amahona

R enata P ohatu, W airakau P ohatu, P eneamine P ohatu.
The applica n t desi res that all other persons who may
claim to be interested in the validat i on applied for shall be
treated as parties to these proceedi ngs, but the applica n t is
una ble to specify any names of persons other than those set
for th herein.
