Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amendment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, John McKenzie, acting for the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 5th day of November, 1896:—
PART IV.—GOODS: LOCAL RATES.
NAPIER–TARANAKI SECTION.
Class H.—Wool, &c.
Class H, undumped, from the under-mentioned stations consigned direct to Wellington via Foxton will be charged at the following through rates per bale for conveyance by rail and steamer, and including wharfage at Foxton:—

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amendment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, Alfred Jerome Cadman, the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 9th day of November, 1896:—
PART I.—PASSENGERS.
LOCAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.
WHANGAREI SECTION.
For the purpose of charging fares the section will be divided into six subsections, as below:—
Opau to Whangarei. Kauri to Hikurangi.
Whangarei to Kamo. Hikurangi to Otonga.
Kamo to Kauri. Otonga to Whakapara.
The following fares will be charged for each subsection: Single—First class, 6d.; second class, 4d. Return tickets will not be issued.
The charge for any portion of a subsection will be the same as for the whole subsection.
Half-tickets will not be issued, but two children under twelve years of age may travel together on one ticket.
PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.: LOCAL RATES AND REGULATIONS.
WHANGAREI SECTION.
For the purpose of charging for the conveyance of parcels the section will be divided into four subsections, as below:—
Opau to Kamo. Hikurangi to Otonga.
Kamo to Hikurangi. Otonga to Whakapara.
The rates for parcels will be as follows:—

The charge for any portion of a subsection will be the same as for the whole subsection.
Parcels will be conveyed subject to the following regulations, viz.:—
No receipts will be given for parcels. They will be conveyed at owners’ risk, the department not being liable for damage, delay, detention, or loss. If the sender desires them to be conveyed at the risk of the department, double rates will be charged.
Parcels must be prepaid by affixing stamps. The stamps, which can be obtained from the Stationmaster (or from the guard at stations where there is no officer of the department in charge), must be affixed by senders.
If parcels are insufficiently stamped the consignee will be required to pay double the amount of the deficiency.
Except in the respects specified herein the general rates and regulations under Part II. of the scale of charges will apply.
PART IV.—GOODS: LOCAL RATES.
WHANGAREI SECTION.
For the purpose of charging for the conveyance of goods, the section will be divided into four subsections, as below:—
Opau to Kamo. Hikurangi to Waro.
Kamo to Hikurangi. Waro to Whakapara.
The rates for goods will be as follows:—

The minimum charge for goods of Classes A, B, C, D, E will be—For one subsection, 1s.; for two subsections, 1s. 6d.; for three subsections, 2s.; for four subsections, 2s.
The charge for any portion of a subsection will be the same as for the whole subsection.
Goods of Classes A, B, C, D, E will be charged by weight or measurement, at the option of the department. The rate includes all charges, and will apply in lieu of small-lots rates.
The minimum quantity of goods of Classes N, P, Q will be as per regulations under Part III. of the Scale of Charges. Any less quantity will be charged as such minimum or at the above rates for A, B, C, D, E goods.
The rates for goods of Classes P and Q consigned to Opau for shipment include weighing and delivery to ship by skip.
The minimum charge for carts, drays, wagons, and carriages will be 5s. each.
Sixpence per ton per day storage will be charged on all goods not removed within three working-days of their arrival.
Class K.—Timber.
The Railway Department may require owners to unload timber from the railway-wagons at Opau. For unloading done by the railway at Opau the following charges will be made, per 100 superficial feet:—

All logs unloaded at the skids shall be taken delivery of by consignees in the harbour within the booms. Delivery will be deemed to be complete when the logs are placed within the booms.
Sawn timber consigned from Whakapara to Opau will be charged 1s. 1d. per 100 superficial feet.
WELLINGTON SECTION.
Class K.—Timber.
The maximum rate for rimu, not otherwise specified, consigned from sawmills to Lower Hutt, Wellington, and intermediate stations, will be as follows:—
From Newman, 2s. 8d. per 100 superficial feet.
From Eketahuna, Opaki, and intermediate stations, 2s. 6d. per 100 superficial feet.
