Undulating to broken land, clay soil, and being from one-half to two-thirds mixed forest. The sections are well watered, and front the main coach-road, Whangarei to Kawakawa, and lie about three miles from Towai.

Section 3, broken inferior land; bush burnt through by fires. Section 4, undulating to broken land of fair quality, with about two-thirds good mixed forest. Section 5, undulating to broken land, of very fair quality; about three-quarters mixed forest. All the sections are well watered, and are accessible by formed road and pack-track; nine miles and a half from Kawakawa, near Ruapekapeka Pa.

Undulating to level lands; light soil, and takes grass well. Some of the lots are watered by the Pongakawa Stream, and there is a permanent spring in north-west corner, Section 1, These sections are situated from fifteen to seventeen miles from Maketu.

VUW Te Waharoa — NZ Gazette 1896, No 81

The Old Government Buildings (depicted) were completed in 1876 and initially housed the entire Wellington-based civil service as well as the entire New Zealand Cabinet. The Executive Council met there until 1948.
