THE Harbourmaster at Kaipara reports that the follow-
ing changes have taken place in the depth of water at
the entrance of Kaipara Harbour:—
At a distance of from three miles and a half to four miles
from the North Spit-end seaward, and in a line with the
leading-beacons, the depth of water has shoaled to 4½ fathoms
at low tide; and about one cable's length to the westward of
this position the depth of water has shoaled to 2¾ fathoms at
low tide, and the sea breaks on it in ordinary rough weather.
Owing to these changes, masters of vessels are recom-
mended to keep the beacons open to the southward when
crossing the bar, and to pay particular attention to the
semapbore signals.
