JAMES MCKINNON
to be Town Clerk of the Borough of Whangarei, as constituted under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” and also Returning Officer for the purpose of conducting the first election of Mayor and of six Councillors for the said borough; also to fix that the number of Councillors for the said borough shall be six; also to appoint Tuesday, the 27th day of October, 1896, to be the day for holding the said first election of Mayor; also to appoint Thursday, the 29th day of October, 1896, to be the day for holding the said first election of six Councillors; also to appoint Monday, the 2nd day of November, 1896, at 7 o’clock in the evening, to be the time, and the Town Clerk’s office, Whangarei, to be the place, at which the first meeting of the Borough Council of Whangarei shall be held.

MANCHESTER ROAD BOARD.
THE following is the result of a poll of ratepayers taken on the 3rd day of September, 1896, on a proposal to borrow £150 for regrading and widening the formation on Proctor’s Hill, on the Bunnythorpe Road, within No. 5 Ward of the Manchester Road District, and comprising No. 5 Special Rating District:—
The total number of ratepayers on the roll, 20, representing 29 votes: of these, 13 ratepayers, having 19 votes, voted for the proposal.
As a majority of ratepayers, exercising more than one-half of the total number of votes, being in favour of the proposal, I declare it to be carried.
