The block lies to the north-east of the Ross Special Settlement, about 33 miles from Stratford Railway-station, some of the sections fronting the Ohura Road, which is formed through the block for dray-traffic. It is all forest land, well watered. The timber comprises tawa, rimu, rata, tawhero, pukatea, konini, with the usual undergrowth, and also some flowering shrubs. Black-birch is met with on the higher portions of the sections. The formation is papa, the average height of ridges above the valleys being from 500ft. to 650ft. Most of the sections have good homestead-sites on valley land. Sections 1 and 2, Block V., Mahoe, have no natural homestead-sites, they being rough sections lying along the face of a watershed; no portion of them is suitable for the grazing of other stock than sheep, when brought under grass. The Arnold frontage to them is all on an up-grade, to get the road over the ridge. Portions of the valley lands are level, but subject to periodical inundations.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this fifth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.
JOHN McKENZIE,
Minister of Lands.
