Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of Patea.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Patea, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886.”

PATEA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The following is the result of a poll taken on the 9th day of April, 1896, on a proposal to borrow £300 under “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of providing a water-supply for the prevention of fires:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 86; number of votes exercisable, 102: Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 52; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 67; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, 2; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 2.
There being a majority of voters and votes in favour of the proposal, I therefore declare it carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Otakia Drainage Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886.”

OTAKIA DRAINAGE DISTRICT, TAIRI COUNTY.
The following is the result of a poll of the ratepayers of the above-named district, taken on the 18th day of July, 1896, on the proposal to borrow £500 from the Government under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the reconstruction, widening, and deepening of the main public drains in said district, and paying the balance of contract for new wheel:—
Number of ratepayers on the roll, 26; number of votes exercisable, 54: Number of ratepayers voting for the proposal, 17; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 37; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, nil.
As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted for the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half of the votes that can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I hereby declare the proposal carried.

Bonus for Production of Mineral Manure.—Notice No. 445.
Department of Agriculture,
Wellington, 25th July, 1896.
A BONUS of £200 is hereby offered for the discovery and working within the colony of a deposit or deposits of marketable mineral manure.
The following are the conditions under which the bonus is offered and will be paid:—
- That the raw material be easily accessible, and within reasonable distance of a road or railway.
- That the person appointed by the Minister for Agriculture to examine the deposit is satisfied that there is sufficient to meet all ordinary demands for five years.
- That at least 200 tons of such manure have been disposed of at a price which will allow of its being remuneratively used for agricultural purposes, and that a further supply can be placed on the market at the same price.
- That, if the deposit be mineral coprolites, it shall contain by analysis at least 20 per cent. of phosphoric acid.
- That, if the deposit be mineral apatites, it shall contain by analysis at least 25 per cent. of phosphoric acid.
Applications addressed to “The Hon. the Minister for Agriculture, Wellington,” will be received up to and including the 1st day of August, 1897.

Signals at Pouto to indicate State of Kaipara Bar.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the 15th August, 1896, the following signal flags of the International Code of Signals will be shown at the Pilot-station at Pouto, Kaipara, to indicate the state of the bar, namely:—
Flag “P”: Bar workable by all vessels, steam or sailing.
Flag “S”: Bar workable by steamers and vessels in tow of steamers only.
Flag “B”: Bar unworkable.

With reference to Notices to Mariners Nos. 8 and 9 of 1896, dated 1st April, notice is hereby given that the lights referred to therein will be exhibited on or about 20th August, instead of 15th July as previously notified.

NOTICE is hereby given that in future examinations of candidates for engineers' certificates will be held as follows:—
At Auckland, during the first week in January, May, and September.
At Wellington, during the first week in February, June, and October.
At Christchurch, during the first week in March, July, and November.
At Dunedin, during the first week in April, August, and December.
The examinations will commence on Monday in each case. In cases of emergency the Examiners will exercise their discretion as to examining candidates at other than the prescribed periods.
