in such Proclamation for the purpose, such prison or police
gaol shall cease to be a prison or police gaol:
Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-
recited power and authority, do hereby declare that, from
and after the gazetting of this Proclamation, the police gaol
at Greymouth, in the Provincial District of Westland, shall
cease to be a police gaol.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow; Knight
Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and
Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies ;
and issued under the Seal of the said Colony,
at the Government House, at Auckland, this
twenty-first day of May, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.

Vaccination Districts constituted.

GLASGOW, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in the
Governor by " The Public Health Act, 1876," I, David,
Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zea-
land, do hereby abolish the existing vaccination district
known as the Hutt District, and do declare that the terri-
tory heretofore comprised within the said district is hereby
divided anew into two vaccination districts, the names
whereof shall be the Petone and Hutt Districts, and the
boundaries whereof shall be coterminous with the boundaries
of the registration districts bearing the same names as are
set forth in a Proclamation of even date herewith, made
under the provisions of " The Registration of Births and
Deaths Act, 1875."
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this eighteenth day of May, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety-six.

GEORGE ARTHUR LEWIN
has been appointed an officer for the purposes of that Act
for that part of the Provincial District of Canterbury to the
north of and including the Rakaia River, and for the waters
of the Clarence River which are within the County of Marl-
borough.

Special Order made by the Manganui Road Board, County

THE following special order, made by the Manganui
Road Board, is published in accordance with the pro-
visions of " The Road Boards Act, 1882."

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.
Notice is hereby given that the following special order was
made on Saturday, 11th April, 1896, and confirmed on
Saturday, 16th May, 1896:—
" That, to secure the repayment of a loan of £175, raised
under ' The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,'
for the purpose of forming and culverting Standish Street
from the Beaconsfield Road as far as Gambia Street, and
of forming Gambia Street from Standish Street to the
Beaconsfield Road, and to gravel the above-mentioned
streets as far as the money will go, commencing at the end
of Standish Street next the Beaconsfield Road ; to pay out
of such loan the cost of raising it; to strike as security on
this loan a special rate of 4d. in the pound over the following
lands—namely, Sections 8, 9, 10, 11, Block VII. ; 1, 2, 11,
12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, Block VIII. ; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,
10, 11, Block IX. ; 1, 2, 4, 5, Block X. ; 5, 6, 12, 13, Block
XI. ; 9, Block XII., Midhirst East. Such rate to be an
annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be
payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st of January
and the 1st of July in each year."
I hereby certify that the above special order was duly
made in accordance with " The Road Boards Act, 1882."

By-laws regulating Traffic on the Alfredton-Weber Road.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred by
section 130 of " The Public Works Act, 1894," and
every Act amending the same, I, John McKenzie, Minister
of Lands, do, in respect of the Government road known as
the Alfredton-Weber Road, extending from the Deep, or
Falls, Creek, to the Pongaroa River, hereby make the follow-
ing by-laws:—

  1. The use of bullocks as traction animals on the said
    road is prohibited for the period from 1st May to 1st Novem-
    ber in any year.
  2. The haulage or transportation on the said road of any
    engine or machine coming under the definition of " heavy
    traffic," within the meaning of clause (a) of subsection (1) of
    section 130 of " The Public Works Act, 1894," during the
    months of May, June, July, August, and September in any
    year shall cease.
