A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in the Governor by “The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1875,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing registration district known as the Hutt District, and do proclaim and declare that the territory heretofore comprised within the said district is hereby divided anew into two registration districts, the names and boundaries whereof shall be as follow:—

PETONE DISTRICT.

All that area in the Wellington Land District situate in the Belmont Survey District, and bounded towards the north by Native land from the north-west corner of Section No. 79, Block XIII., to Section No. 16 (Native reserve); towards the south-east and again towards the north by the said Section No. 16, across the Wellington–Masterton Railway-line and the main Hutt Road, and by White’s Road to the Hutt River; towards the east by that river and Section No. 10 to Port Nicholson Harbour; towards the south by high-water mark of the said harbour, crossing the mouth of the Koro-koro Stream to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary-line of Section No. 19; towards the south-west by a right line to that boundary-line, and thence by the said Section No. 19 to Section No. 78 of Block XIII. aforesaid; and towards the west by the last-mentioned section to the starting-point.

HUTT DISTRICT.

All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north by part of a line drawn due east from the coast over the highest point of the road crossing the Paikakariki Hill to where it intersects the summit of the Tararua Range; towards the south-east by that summit and the summit of the Rimutaka Range to Cape Turakirae; thence towards the south-west generally by the ocean and the waters of Port Nicholson to the Borough of Petone; thence by the said Borough of Petone and again by the waters of Port Nicholson to a point opposite the southern corner of Section No. 19, Block XII., Belmont Survey District; and towards the north-west generally by a line across the road to the said corner; thence by Sections Nos. 18 and 3 of the said block, and by the western side of a road bounding Section No. 5 of the said Block XII., bounding Section No. 7 of Block XIII., and bounding Sections Nos. 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, and 22, Block VIII.; thence by Sections Nos. 24, 25, 26, and 27 of the said Block VIII., by Sections Nos. 28, 29, 30, and 339, Block II., by Section No. 332, Block III., and by the western side of a road intersecting Sections Nos. 332, 334, 337, 341, 342, 345, 433, 436, 57, and 59, Block III., and bounding Sections Nos. 16, 15, 7, 10, 6, and 2, Block IV., Belmont Survey District, and Sections Nos. 19 and 16, Block X., Paikakariki Survey District, and intersecting Sections Nos. 11, 3, 4, and 6, and bounding Sections Nos. 34, 25A, and 26; and thence by Section No. 24A of Block X. aforesaid to the north-east corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by a right line to the point on or about the west boundary of Section No. 391, Akatarawa Survey District, where it is intersected by the line from the coast near Paikakariki Hill aforesaid.

And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come into operation on the first day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Auckland, this eighteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.
