SUPPLEMENT

TO THE

NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE

OF

THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1896.

Published by Authority.

WELLINGTON, THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1896.

Notice of Application to amend Specification.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 21st May, 1896.

BY virtue of an order of the Supreme Court of New Zealand dated the 9th day of May, 1896, an application by The Cassel Gold-extracting Company (Limited), formerly of 157, West George Street, Glasgow, Lanark, North Britain, but now of 108A, Hope Street, Glasgow aforesaid, for leave to amend, by way of disclaimer, the under-mentioned specification for Letters Patent has been received, and is open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within one month from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition to the amendments. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon:—

No. 2775. — 1st February, 1888. — JOHN STEWART MACARTHUR, Technical Chemist, of 15, Princes Street, Pollokshields, Renfrew, North Britain; ROBERT WARDROP FORREST, M.D., and WILLIAM FORREST, M.B., both of 319, Crown Street, Glasgow, Lanark, North Britain. An invention for improvements in obtaining gold and silver from ores and other compounds.

The nature of the proposed amendments is as follows, viz.:—

  1. To insert on page 3, between lines 4 and 5, the following paragraph: i.e., “Whereas a claim simply and broadly for the use of cyanogen or a cyanide or cyanogen yielding substance might be held to include all strengths of solution, and whereas dilute solutions containing eight parts or less of cyanogen, or what is equivalent thereto, for every one thousand parts of water are most advantageous, whilst strong solutions, besides being more costly, are of less practical utility, we hereby disclaim the use of strong solutions.”

  2. To insert in the claim, between the words “with” and “cyanogen,” page 3, line 10, the words “a dilute solution containing.”

The reasons given for such amendments are,—

“That it is desirable to prevent the claim from being held to include strengths of solution different from those which are practically useful.”

Deputy Registrar.
