IT is herebby notifed that a lese of the under-mentioned

and Survery Office, Blenheim, on Wednesday, the 20th day
of May, 1896:—

1881,"—
Hundalee Survery Distrct, Section 31, Block XXT. ;
20 ares; term, one year, from 1st March, 1896; upset
annual rentl, £5.
Description of land: Good soi, about half in grass, re-
mainder covered with light bus and scrb (ngao, mohoe,
&c), well waterd, about 12 chins of wire and stke fenc
dividing section into two paddock; value, £8; distnt
seventeen miles and a half from Kikoura by track.
The teams of settlers travlling to and using the reser
asa landng-pace, and the hors of bonâ fide travllers, to be
accommmodated free of charge.
One half-year's rent and £1 1s. lese- fee must be paid on
the fall of the hamer.

Te Makarini Scholaships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke's
Bay.
THREE scholarships of the yearl value of £35, tenable
for two years, are offerd for competition. One of
thes scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is
open to all Maoris under sixteen years of age at the end of
the month preceding the date of the examinatoin ; the othr
two scholarships are jnior scholarships, and are open to all
Maois under fifteen years of age at the end of the month
preceeding the date of the examinatoin who have not been
pupils at Te Aute or St. Stephn's, and whose attendanc
at school during the previous year is considerd by the
Inspecor of Ntive School to have been satisfctory.
The senior scholarship is offerd for competition among
Maoi boys on the conditions layd down in the regulations
of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholaships Fund, as
printd in the Ntive School Code, 1893, and in the supple-
mentary regulations that have been sent out to all teachers.
Candidates for the jnior scholarships will be examind in
the subjects specifid for Standard IV. in the Ntive School
Code, 1893. The questions will, howevr, be more difficult
than thos set for the standard examinatons. The exami-
natoin will be held at convenint centres on the 21st and
22nd December, 1896.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers,
send notice to the Inspecor of Ntive School, Education
Department, Wellington, of their intention to present them-
selves for examinatoin. Such notice must be postd not
later than the 31st October next.
Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be
obtained from teachers of Ntive school and boardng insti-
tutions, the Secretaries to Education Board, or the Secre-
tary for Education.
