THE notice published by me, under date 27th March, 1896.
and appesring in the Gazette of the 2nd April 1896.
on page 570, is herby revoked, and in lieu thereof notice
is herby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred
upon me in this beball by "The Shop and Shop-assistants
Act, 1894," and in terms of notice in writing daly received
by me from the chairmin of the conference of delegates
appointd by all the local authorities comprised in the dis-trict constituted for the purpose of that Act by the Boroughs
of Invercargill, East Invercargill, North Invercargill, South
Invercargill, Avenal, and Gladstone (being all theboroughs
or town district any part of any one of which is situate
within a mile of any part of another), I, Richard John Sed-don, Minister of Labcur, herby appoint Wednesday to be
the day upon which all shop in the said district shall be
closed, as provided by that Act.

Boous for the Manufecture of Potassiam Cyanide.

DEpartment of Industries and Commeroe.
Wellington, 17th January, 1895.
NOTICE is herby given that a bonus of £1,000 will be
paid for the erection of a plant and the manufecture
in New Zealnd of the first 200 ton of crude cyanide of
pottasium from colonial produce.
-
The plant must be capable of produing at least 70
tons of crude cyanide of pottasium anually. -
The crude cyanide of pottasium so manufectured shall
contain at least 70 per cent. of pottasium cyanide. -
The bonus will be paid in two equal instalmants, the
first instalmant being payabie on the production of the first
100 ton, and the second instalmant on the production of
the second 100 ton, of crude cyanide of pottasium contain-ing the required percentage of pottasium cyanide. -
On the completion of the plant, notice in writing must
be sent to the Minister of Industries and Commeroe, Well-ington, who will appoint an officer to inspeot the same.
together with the raw material then available from which
the cyanide of pottasium is proposed to be manufectured. -
The officer so appointd shall from time to time inspeot
the process of manufecture, in order that he may satisfry
himself that the whole of the cyanide of pottasium is being
manufectured from material of New Zealnd production ;
and before any bonus is paid such officer will be required
to certify that he is satisfled the crude cyanide of pottasium
is the product of New Zealnd material only, and that it
contains the required percentage of pottasium cyanide. -
The bonus must be claimed for the first 100 ton on or
before the 31st March, 1897, and for the second 100 ton on
or before the 30th September, 1898.

Boous for Destrution of Rabbits.—Notice No. 436.

Wellington, N.Z., 14th December, 1895.
A BONUS of £1,000 is offered for a practical scheme for
the destrution of rabbit.
The following are the conditions :—
-
All applications for the bonus must be sent addresed
to the Hoo. the Minister for Agriculture, Wellington, New
Zealnd, and must reach him not later than 31st May, 1896.
Each application must be accompanid by a full description
of the means proposed to be adoptd. -
The Government shall appoint a committee of three or
more experts, to whom all applications shall be submitted.
Sach committee shall, after perusal, state what scheme
thej deen worhy of further conideration, and are satisfled
maybe used with absolute safety.
On completion of the committee's prelininary investiga-tions each applicat will be notifed of the decision arrived
at, and whether or not his individual scheme will be further
inquired into.
The committee may afterards inspeot the whole or any
of the scheme at any place or places within the colory, or
mny direct that the whole or any of them be submitted for
tral at such time and place as they may think fit.
The following shall be a basis of the tral :—
-
A suitable piece of rabbit-infestd land shall be allowed
to each applicat (of whose scheme the committee have
approved), and on which he will have full power to carry out
a trial of his scheme for a period not exceding two years. -
Each applicat on expiry of the period named shall
submit a detailed and accurate statement of the actual
cost incurred in testing his scheme.
On the expiry of the period named the committee shall as
soo as conveniet therafter (should they deen it nece-sary) make a personal inspeotion of each applicat's allot-ment, and shall take into conideration—
-
The actual cost incurred by each applicat in test-ing his scheme for the period above mentioned.

The result of the work done on each allotment.
On completion of the tests the committee shall furnish a
report to the Minister on all the scheme which they have
examed or tested, and shall state—
-
The scheme which they consider on the whole the
most practical, efficient, and economic; and if they consider
sach scheme worhy of the bonus. -
Whether, in the event of no one scheme being entitied
to the whole bonus, they deen any one worhy of a part.
and, if so, how much.
The committee has power to withold all award if they
thinks none of the scheme submitted of sufficient impor-tance to merit a bonus.
A sum not exceding 6d. per are may be paid to each
competer whose scheme is accepted for test by the com-mittee, and who, in the opinion of the committee, has done
work desrving of recognitio.

Boous for Encouragement of New Zealnd Hemp (Phor-mium tenax) Indutry.—Notice No. 430.

Wellington, 1st November, 1895.
BONUS No. 1.
A BONUS of £1,750 is offered for a machine or process
for dressng New Zealnd bemp (Phormium tenax)
which shall be an improvement on the machine or process
now in use, and which shall, after trial, be found to mat-rially reduce the cost of production, improve the product, or
inorease the quantity of dressd fibre.
The following are the conditions :—
-
All applications for the bonus must be sent addresed
to the Hoo. the Minister for Agriculture, Wellington, and
most reach him not later than the 31st March, 1897. Each
application must be accompanid by a description of the
mache or process, particularly stting improvement on
prent machine or process, and also the cost at which
the machine or process can be supplyd. -
The applicats must be prepared to submit their
mache or process to examinat on at such time and
place as the Government may direct. -
The Government shall appoint a committee of three or
more experts, to whom all applications shall be submitted.
Sach committee shall, after perusal, state what mache or
process they deen worhy of conideration, and may in-spect the same at any place within the colory; and, having
so inspeoted the whole or any of them, may direct that the
wholo or any of them be brought for further trial to such
place as they may think fit.
The cost of bringing the mache or appliance on to the
ground, from within the colory, supplyng the necessary
shafting, motire power, and buildings, to be defrayed by the
Government. If any machine sent from beyond the colory
is award the bonus or part thereof, then the cost of
brnging such machine shall be borne by the Government.
The following shall be the basis of the test :—
The committee shall supply a sufficient and equal quan-tity of green bemp to each machine or process as a test.
The committee shall take into conideration—
The time occupid by each machine or process in the
operation ;
The cost of labcur and time required after the fibre has
left the machine or process before it is ready for
baling ;
The percentage of dressd fibre and tow produced by
each machine or process ;
The cost of produing the same ;
The cost of the machine, and the simplicity and dura-bility of the working parts.
