Appointment of Persons to act on the Committee of the Waitaki Islands (Papakaio Portion).

HIS Excellency the Governor has, in terms of clause 2 of the rules and regulations for the management of the Papakaio portion of the Waitaki Islands, dated 11th September, 1895, approved of the following persons acting on the Committee for the care, management, and protection of the said islands, viz:—

Also to appoint Monday, the 20th day of April next, at 2 o’clock p.m., to be the time, and the Taieri County Hut, Duck Bridge, to be the place, for the first meeting of the Trustees of the said drainage district.

Special Order made by the Featherston Road Board, County of Wairarapa South.

THE following special order, made by the Featherston Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Featherston Road Board, Wairarapa South County.

THAT, to meet the interest and charges on a loan of £300 (under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and its amendments) for the purpose of constructing a road from the Pahaoa Native Reserve to Glenburn boundary, a special rate of 1/8d. in the pound be now levied on the rateable value of the properties in the Pahaoa-Glenburn Special Rating District, comprising—Section 1, 157 acres; Section 4, 336 acres; Section 5, 324 acres; Section 10, 936 acres, all in Block IX., Mount Adams Survey District, as at present occupied by Mr. Duncan Cameron: and Section 10, Block VIII., 1,380 acres; Section 21, Block VI., 223 acres; and Section 22, Block IX., 237 acres, all in the Mount Adams Survey District, as at present occupied by Mr. John Cameron. Such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, or until the loan is paid off; and shall be due and payable in two equal instalments on the 2nd days of January and July in each year, the first of such instalments to be payable on the 2nd day of July, 1896.

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made and confirmed by the Featherston Road Board, in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, County of Akaroa.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Akaroa County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESULT of a poll taken in the Akaroa County, upon the 21st day of March, 1896, upon a proposal to borrow £2,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for works to keep Lake Forsyth at a permanently low level, and to pledge as security for the loan, in addition to the special rate prescribed by law, the rents and profits which may now or in the future accrue from reserves dedicated to that purpose:—

Number of ratepayers on the county roll, 446, representing 828 votes: 135 ratepayers, representing 256 votes, voted in favour of the said loan; 17 ratepayers, representing 33 votes, voted against the proposal; 293 ratepayers, representing 538 votes, were not recorded; and there was 1 informal vote. Majority of ratepayers against and not voting, 175; majority of votes against and not recorded, 316.

And I therefore declare the said proposals to be rejected.
