Victoria Street, Auckland, New Zealand, Confectioner. An
invention entitled "Bergin's American Boss Chewing-toffee."

No. 8347.—11th March, 1896.—August Charles Koch, of
the Public Works Department, Auckland, New Zealand,
Civil Engineer. An invention for the screwing-up or un-
screwing of fang-bolts which connect sleepers to rails,
particularly in the construction of railways and tramways,
to be called "Koch's Duplex Spanner." (Specifications, 7s.;
drawings, £1.)

Notice of Request to amend Specification.
Patent Office,

A REQUEST to be allowed to amend the specification
relating to the under-mentioned application for
Letters Patent has been received, and is open to public in-
spection at this office. Any person may, at any time within
one month from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in
writing of opposition to the amendments. Such notice
should be in duplicate, and be accompanied by a fee of
10s.:—
No. 8090.—27th November, 1895.—Emil Lawrence Opper-
mann, of 132, Hanley Road, Finsbury Park, London, Eng-
land, Electrician, Ewald Fischer, of 25, Listria Park, Stoke-
Newington, London, England, Engineer, and Carl Tunstill
John Oppermann, of 2, Wynnyatt Street, London, E.C., Eng-
land, Electrical Engineer. An invention for an improved
process for effecting the amalgamation of gold and the like
metals in ores.
The nature of the proposed amendments is as follows,
viz.:—
(1.) To strike out the words "may be," line 24, page 1,
and substitute therefor the word "is."
(2.) To insert between the words "by" and "suitable,"
line 24, page 1, the words "means of a jet of steam through."
(3.) To strike out the word "to," line 25, page 1, and to
substitute therefor the words "and forced into."
(4.) To insert between the words "ore" and "so," line 26,
page 1, the words "under pressure."
(5.) To strike out the present claims, and to insert in
place thereof the following, viz.:—
"1. The improved process for effecting the amalgamation
of gold and other metals in ores, consisting of heating mer-
cury in a closed receptacle until it vapourizes, the vapour
being then drawn through a pipe or pipes by means of an
injector actuated by steam, hot compressed air, or other
suitable gas, and forced thereby into the body of ore to be
treated."
The applicants state: "Our reasons for making this
amendment is to more clearly describe the invention and
claim."
