A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred by the one hundred and sixty-second section of "The Land Act, 1892," and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the block of land described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby set apart and declared open for special settlement.
SCHEDULE.
DERWENT IMPROVED-FARM SPECIAL SETTLEMENT.
ALL that piece or parcel of land in the Land District of Taranaki, containing 1,369 acres, more or less, being sections numbered respectively 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, and Section 29, Block I., and sections numbered 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19, Block IV., Mimi Survey District; as the same is delineated on the map marked S.G. 26004, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Land District of Wellington, and thereon edged pink.

ALL that parcel of land in the Land District of Taranaki, containing 1,889 acres 2 roods, more or less, being sections numbered respectively 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20, Block IX., and section numbered 9, Block VIII., Mimi Survey District; as the same is delineated on the map marked S.G. 27921, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Land District of Wellington, and thereon edged pink.

Removal of Restrictions on Alienation of Native Land.
GLASGOW, Governor.
WHEREAS application has been made to the Governor by the owner of the land described in the Schedule hereto, praying that the restrictions on the alienation of such land contained in the Crown grant bearing date the eleventh day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventy, may be removed: And whereas inquiry has been duly made by the Native Land Court, and the said Court has recommended that such restrictions be removed:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the fifty-second section of "The Native Land Court Act, 1894," and in accordance with the recommendation of the Native Land Court, doth hereby order and declare that all restrictions imposed by the said Crown grant on the alienation of the said land are hereby removed.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land, containing 50 acres, being Lot 5, Otago Heads, Native Reserve, held under Crown grant dated the 11th April, 1870, in favour of Katie Burns, and containing the following restrictions: "Inalienable by sale, or by lease for a longer period than twenty-one years, or by mortgage, except with the consent of the Governor being previously obtained to every such sale, lease, or mortgage."
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six.

Regulations for the Examination of Surveyors under "The Land Act, 1892."
GLASGOW, Governor.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the fourth section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations for the examination of and for the issue of certificates to surveyors:-
REGULATIONS.
Board of Examiners.
- There is hereby constituted a Board of Examiners, consisting of the persons for the time being holding the respective offices of-
The Surveyor-General, the Under-Secretary for Lands, the Assistant Surveyor-General, the Inspector of Mines, the Chief Surveyor for the Land District of Napier, the Chief Surveyor for the Land District of Canterbury.

The Surveyor-General shall be Chairman of the Board, but in case of his absence from any meeting the members present shall appoint one of their number to act as Chairman.

The Board may appoint a Secretary, who shall hold office during the Board's pleasure, and be paid such salary as the Minister of Lands thinks fit. The office of Secretary may be held conjointly with any other post or office in the Civil Service.

A meeting of the Board shall be convened by the Secretary whenever the Chairman or any two members so desire.

At all meetings of the Board the quorum shall be four. The Chairman shall have a deliberative vote, and, in case of equality of voting, a casting-vote.

Subject to these regulations, the Board may regulate its own procedure.
Time and Place of Examination.

Examinations will be held in the months of March and September of each year, on dates to be fixed by the Board and notified in the New Zealand Gazette: Provided that the first examination after the coming into force of these regulations may be held later than March if the Board thinks fit.

Examinations will be held at the principal Survey Office of each Land District in which there are candidates for examination. The Chief Surveyor of each Land District, or some officer appointed by the Board, shall conduct the examination and act as Supervisor.
