REGISTAR-GENERAL'S Report on the Vital Statis tics of the Principal Towns of New Zealnd during the Mon th of October, 1895:—

Death soccur ring at hospitalshave been omitted, except where de ceased had previously resided in one or other of the aboveboroughs, in which case the death iscounted against theborough of res idence.
The total births in the aboveboroughsamounted to 391, against 379 in September, an increase of 12. The deathsin October were 159, a decrea se of 37 on the number in September. Of the total dea ths,males contribu t ed 83, fema les 76. Forty-two of the deathswere of children under 5 years of age, being 26·42 per cent. of the whole number; 35 of these were under 1 year of age. There were 36 deathsof persons of 65 years and upwa rds: Si x men of 69, 70, 80, 81, 86, 93, and one woman of 70, died at Auckl and; four men of 68, 70, 81, 87, and three women of 72, 82, 87, at Wellington; four men of 65, 67, 68, 76, and seven women of 65, 68 (t w o), 70, 74, 76, 77, at Chri stchurch; four men of 67, 68, 70, 72, and seven women of 68, 74, 75, 76, 79, and 80 (t w o), at D uned in.

The following Table shows the Ca uses of the Deathsof Persons of both Sexes under 5 Yearsof Age and 5 Year sand upwa rds, and the Proportions per Cent. of Death s from each Ca use, in the Boroughs above given registered during the Mon th of October, 1895.
