THE following special orders, made by the Ekatahuna Road Board, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

EKETAHUNA ROAD BOARD.—SPECIAL ORDERS.

No. 1.—That, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £900, borrowed by the Board, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of metalling the Tawataia Road, a special rate of 1½d. in the pound be made on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: Sections 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 28A, 28B, 30, 30A, 30B, 39, 40, 41, Block VII., and Lots 1, 5, 6, 7, subdivisions of Section 24, Block III., all in the Survey District of Mangaone. Such rate shall be an annually-recurring rate, and shall be paid in two half-yearly instalments, for twenty-six years, on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each year, until the debt is liquidated.

No. 2.—That, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £275, borrowed by the Board, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of formation and metalling on Cullen and Stanley Streets,

Parkville, a special rate of 3d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: Sections 4, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 35, 36, 37, 38, 47, 48, 49, 50, 59, 60, 61, 62, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 164, the western half of Section 7, two-thirds of Section 8 (on western side of section), the eastern halves of Sections 27, 34, 39, 46, 51, 58, 63, 70, all in the Township of Parkville, and that portion of Section 38, Block IX., Mangaone Survey District, west of the line between the Parkville Township Sections 18 and 19, produced to the southern boundary of the said Section 38. Such rate shall be an annually-recurring rate, and shall be paid in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each year until the debt is liquidated.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the dismissal of No. 383, Gunner Thomas St. John McKnight, Auckland Naval Artillery Volunteers, from the New Zealand Volunteer Force for neglect of duty, under sections 46 and 50, “Defence Act, 1886,” and paragraph 210, Volunteer Regulations, 1895. Dismissal to date from the 14th October, 1895.

Alteration in Date of Formation of Otago Volunteer Battalion.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to cancel that portion of His Excellency’s warrant, dated 19th October last, in which the formation of the Otago Battalion of Infantry Volunteers is laid down as dating from the 10th day of October, 1895, and to substitute therefor the formation and constitution of such battalion as dating from the 8th day of October, 1895; and also to approve of the commissions of all those officers, appointed by above warrant to such battalion, as dating from the 8th of October, 1895, instead of the 10th of October, 1895.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is published for general information.

SPENCER GULF, SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—MIDDLE BANK.

Notice is hereby given that, on or about the 15th December, 1895, it is intended to place a lightship near the western edge of the Middle Bank, Spencer Gulf.

The vessel, painted red, has one mast (with ball at the masthead), from which a fixed white light will be exhibited, visible in ordinary weather at a distance of, say, ten miles all round. The vessel will be moored in 4 fathoms water L.W.S., with Webling Point on with Barn Hill bearing N. 85° 50' E.
