In the first table are given the death and death-rates for each of the four cities, for the
suburban buroughs severally, and for each city with its sub urban town. As reg ards Auckland and
C h r i s t c h u r c h , the whole of the area usually recognised as sub urban has not yet been
brought under muni cipal government, and the vital statistics do not deal with such portion as
s t i l l remain in road di stricts. But the omission is not very important, for there are in either
case quite enough sub urbs included within burough boundar ies to give a fair idea of the death- rate
of G reater Auckland and G reater C h r i s t c h u r c h . As further buroughs are formed the vital
statistics will be made to include them.
By including the sub urban buroughs the death- rate for last month is lowered at Auckland and
Dun edin, but raised at Wellington and C h r i s t c h u r c h . The rates for September are,–
Death- rate per 1,000
