Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Arch Hill Road Board,
Eden County.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of
the Arch Hill Road Board, is published in accordance
with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

ARCH HILL ROAD DISTRICT.

Result of the poll taken on the 5th of October, 1895, on a
proposal to borrow £1,800, under "The Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1886," for the purpose of obtaining a water-supply:—

Number of ratepayers on the roll, 297, representing 314
votes: 183 ratepayers, representing 190 votes, voted for the
proposal; 4 against; 3 informal.

As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour
of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to
more than one-half in number of the votes which can be
exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I declare the
proposal to be carried.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Hutt County Council.

Hutt County Council, is published in accordance with
the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

NO. 2 LOAN, WAINUIOMATA.

Result of a poll taken on the 7th day of September, 1895, on
a proposal to raise a loan of £500, under "The Local Bodies'
Loans Act, 1886," and "The Government Loans to Local
Bodies Act, 1886," for the purpose of replacing and repairing
extraordinary damage caused by floods on portions of the
Lower Wainuiomata Road, and for forming and metalling
portions of Moore's Valley Road and the Swamp Road:—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 32, representing 46 votes:
Number of ratepayers who voted in favour of proposal, 21,
representing 34 votes; number of ratepayers who voted
against proposal, nil; number of ratepayers who did not
vote, 11, representing 12 votes.

As a majority of the ratepayers, representing more than
one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, voted in
favour of the proposal, I hereby declare the proposal to be
carried.

WHANGAMARINO ROAD BOARD.—MARAMARUA SUBDIVISION.

Result of a poll taken at the School, Maramarua North, on
the 24th September, 1895, upon a proposal to raise a loan of
£250 for the construction of a bridge over the Maungatangi
River, at Surry Farm:—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 36; number of pollable
votes, 43: Number of ratepayers that voted for the proposal,
16, exercising 20 votes; number of ratepayers that voted
against the proposal, 0; number of ratepayers who did not
vote, 19, being entitled to 22 votes.

I therefore declare the proposal lost.

Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Aka-aka Drainage
District, County of Manukau.

of Waiuku, to be Returning Officer for the purpose of con-
ducting the first election of five members of the Board of
Trustees of the Aka-aka Drainage District, as constituted
under "The Land Drainage Act, 1893"; also to appoint
Saturday, the 9th day of November, 1895, to be the day
for holding such first elections; and also to appoint Satur-
day, the 16th day of November, 1895, at 2 p.m., to be the
time, and the Road Board Office, Waiuku, to be the place, at
which the first meeting of the Trustees shall be held.

Revised Regulations with Respect to the Entry of Naval
Cadets into Her Majesty's Navy.

THE under-mentioned revised regulations with reference
to the entry of naval cadets into Her Majesty's navy,
received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, are
republished for general information.

REGULATIONS RESPECTING NAVAL CADETS.—FOR THE INFOR-
MATION OF CANDIDATES.

  1. APPOINTMENTS to naval cadetships will be made by limited
    competition, with the under-mentioned exceptions :—

Four cadetships given annually to sons of gentlemen in
the colonies, on the recommendation of the Secretary
of State for the Colonies.

Service cadetships, the total number of which is not to
exceed five in any one year. Service cadets will be
selected by the Board of Admiralty from (a) sons of
officers of the army, navy, or marines who have been
killed in action, or who have been lost at sea on active
service, or killed on duty, or who have died of wounds
received in action or injuries received on duty within
six months from the date of such action or injury ;
(b) sons of officers of the navy who have performed
long or distinguished service, and who hold or have
held rank or relative rank on the active list not lower
than that of commander. Not more than two such
latter service cadets will be nominated annually.

Applications for service cadetships should be addressed
to the Military Secretary, Horse Guards, if the candi-
date is the son of an officer of the army ; to the Secre-
tary of the Admiralty if the candidate is the son of
an officer of the navy or marines ; and to the Military
Secretary, India Office, if the candidate is the son of
an officer of the Indian army.

Colonial and service cadets will be entered on passing the
test examination as specified in paragraphs 9 and 10, and
will in all other respects be subject to these regulations.

The educational examination of all candidates will be con-
ducted by the Civil Service Commissioners (address, Cannon
Row, Westminster), who will deal with all questions con-
ected with such examination, and will announce the results.
A fee of £1 will be required from each candidate.

  1. Except in special circumstances, not more than one-
    third of the number of candidates actually presenting them-
    selves before the Civil Service Commissioners will be entered.

  2. All nominations of candidates for naval cadetships are
    made by the First Lord, with the exception of a limited
    number which are at the disposal of individual members of
    the Board, and of the Secretaries to the Board of Admiralty.
