NOTICE is hereby given that licenses have been issued to the under-mentioned persons authorising them to appear as agents in the Native Land Court for the year ending the 31st day of December, 1895, subject to the provisions of section 20 of "The Native Land Court Act, 1894," viz.:—

Notice of Inquiry under Section 118 of "The Native Land Court Act, 1894."

WHEREAS Margaret Russell Smellie Buchanan, of Whangaroa, claiming to have purchased from certain of the Native owners shares or interests in the Tipatipa 628N Block, and to have been prior to the date of the passing of "The Native Land Court Act, 1894," in negotiation for the purchase of certain other shares or interests therein, has notified such claim to the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, and to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Auckland District, and has requested that an inquiry into the circumstances thereof may be held as provided by section 118 of the said Act: And whereas the Chief Judge has referred the said claim to a Commissioner of the Native Land Court for inquiry as aforesaid: I hereby give notice that such inquiry will be held at the Native Land Court, Whangaroa, on the 21st day of November, 1895, at 10 a.m.

Application to the Validation Court under "The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1893."

IN THE VALIDATION COURT,
HELDEN AT GISBORNE.

In the application of Robert Knox for validation of a contract for sale of sixteen shares in the Mirimiri Block.

  1. ROBERT KNOX, of Gisborne, contractor, applies for validation of a transaction whereby certain interests were purchased by him in the Mirimiri Block, situate in the County of Cook, then containing ninety acres, but since subdivided into two blocks named Mirimiri and Mirimiri No. 1 respectively.

  2. The applicant desires to appear before this honourable Court on Tuesday, the 12th day of November, 1895, at 10 a.m., or so soon thereafter as counsel can be heard.

  3. The nature of the transaction proposed for validation is a conveyance made on or about the 19th day of September, 1882, to the said Robert Knox, from Epiniha Hokeke (£4), Mere Kingi (£4), Hamiora Kaiwhakataka as successor to Maata Rewanga (£4), Kato Ruru (£4), Apera te Awahaku (£5), Keita Puahau (£4), Hirini Tangataataua (£4), Ihaka Tamaki (£5), Hare Mauwhata (£5), Riria Tauaria (£4), Keita Kenana (with consent of her husband) (£5), Wiremu Kingi te Apaapa (£5), Wi Waikare (£4), Henare Kotiti (£5), Ereatara Rangi-whaitiri (£5), and Rawiri Tokitahi (£4), as well as Mika Turangi (£5), whose share the applicant does not claim; a consideration in all of £76.

  4. The land intended to be alienated was the interests of the above-named Natives in the Mirimiri Block, the title of which at the time of alienation was held under memorial of ownership, dated the 21st day of May, 1875.

  5. The said Mirimiri Block was subdivided on the 26th day of September, 1883, and a portion of the said Mirimiri Block, containing 13 acres 1 rood 20 perches, and named Mirimiri No. 1 Block, was allocated to those Natives above named (except the said Mika Turangi), who had purported to sell their interests to the applicant.

  6. The estate the applicant desires to obtain is an estate of fee-simple.

  7. The applicant claims to be invested with the title by virtue of the before-mentioned conveyance.

  8. The address for service of the applicant is at the office of Robert Noble Jones, solicitor, Gladstone Road, Gisborne.

  9. The applicant desires the estates and interests of the Natives mentioned in paragraph 3, with the exception of Mika Turangi, to be bound by the decree of the Court, and for that purpose requires that copies of this application may be served on them or their representatives according to the list herewith. The applicant desires that all other parties who claim to be interested in the land should be treated as parties to these proceedings.
