Vital Statistics, August, 1895.
REGISTRAR-GENERAL'S Report on the Vital Statistics of the Principal Towns of New Zealand during the Month of August, 1895:β
RETURN of the Number of Births, with the Actual Mortality of Males and Females, and the Proportion of Deaths to Population, in the under-mentioned Boroughs, during the Month of August, 1895.

- The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.
Deaths occurring at hospitals have been omitted, except where deceased had resided before admission in one or other of the above boroughs, in which case the death is counted against the borough of residence.
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 365, against 377 in July, a decrease of 12. The deaths in August were 192, an increase of 45 on the number in July. Of the total deaths, males contributed 99, females 93. Fifty of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 26Β·04 per cent. of the whole number; 36 of these were under 1 year of age. There were 43 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Eight men of 65, 71, 74, 76, 77, 84 (two), 92, and eight women of 65 (two), 69 (two), 76, 78, 79, 85, died at Auckland; four men of 74, 75, 78 (two), and four women of 65 (two), 79, 84, at Wellington; five men of 65, 66, 75 (two), 77, and three women of 66, 70, 72, at Christchurch; seven men of 65 (two), 67, 73, 75, 76, 82, and four women of 65, 67, 70, 74, at Dunedin.
The following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs above given registered during the Month of August, 1895.
