Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN accordance with “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, Alfred Jerome Cadman, the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in and additions to the scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New Zealand Government railways, to come into force on and after the 18th day of March, 1895:—

PART I.—PASSENGERS: GENERAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.

School Excursions.

  1. First-class ordinary return tickets, available for any ordinary trains, will be issued at the option of the depart-ment to the managers of school parties numbering not less than twenty scholars at the rate of one ticket for every four scholars not exceeding fifteen years of age, and of one ticket for every two scholars over fifteen years of age, or every two
bonâ fide teachers accompanying the party. No fractional part of a ticket will be issued.

Although first-class tickets will be issued, first-class carriages will not be guaranteed.

Excursion tickets at the following fares will be issued at the option of the department to school parties numbering not less than twenty scholars:—

Distance. Scholars not exceeding Fifteen Years of Age. Scholars over Fifteen Years of Age, and Adults in charge of Children.
From seven miles to twenty-five miles 0 6 1 0
Over twenty-five miles and not over fifty miles 1 0 2 0
Over fifty miles 1 6 3 0

With every nine scholars for whom fares are paid under this regulation one child (who would not otherwise be able to join the excursion, and who by exemplary conduct, applica-tion, and regular attendance merits the concession) may be carried free on the certificate of the teacher.

Tickets for school excursions will be available for return on the day of issue only.

In the case of small school parties, three days' notice should be given to the District Manager, and ten days' notice in the case of large excursions.
