Tenders for Mail-service between Belgrave, Reefton, and
Westport for 1895 and 1896.

General Post Office,
Wellington, 13th December, 1894.

N O eligible offers having been received for the above
service, tenders are again invited for the conveyance
of mails by coach between the under-mentioned places for a
period of two years, from the 1st January, 1895, to the 31st
December, 1896:—
Belgrave and Reefton twice weekly, and Reefton and
Westport daily.
Forms of tender, with the terms and conditions of contract,
may be procured at any post-office.
Tenders, which are to be indorsed "Tender for Bel-
grove-Reefton-Westport Mail-service," and addressed to the
Secretary, General Post Office, Wellington, must reach the
General Post Office not later than noon of Saturday, the
22nd instant.
NOTE.—Should the successful tenderer be unable to com-
mence running on the 1st January, arrangements have been
made with the present contractor to continue the service for
a period not exceeding four weeks.

Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the authority in me for this
purpose vested, I, the Commissioner of Trade and
Customs, do, by this order under my hand, revoke and
annul the appointment of the under-mentioned warehouse
for the reception and security of goods entered to be ware-
housed without payment of duty upon the first entry thereof,
namely:—
Port of Lyttelton.
The warehouse known as
THE CITY BOND,
as appointed and described in Commissioner's Order No. 223,
of the 19th March, 1885.

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by "The Customs Laws Consolidation
Act, 1882," I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do
hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned warehouse
to be a warehouse for the reception of goods under bond,
namely:—
Port of Lyttelton.
The front cellar, ground-floor, and first-floor of a brick
building, roofed with iron, situate at 154, Worcester Street,
Christchurch, on Lots 8 and 9, Section 713, to be known as
THE CITY BOND.
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this thirteenth

Volunteer Cavalry Corps formed into Mounted Rifles.

H IS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to ap-
prove of the Waimku Cavalry Volunteers being
formed into Mounted Rifles, with the corps' present seniority
in the Volunteer Force, and under the title of the "Waimku
Mounted Rifle Volunteers."

Notice to Receivers of Revenue as to defacing Counterfeit
or Diminished Coin.

The Treasury,
Wellington, 19th December, 1894.

T HE attention of Receivers of Revenue is requested to
section 12 of "The Indictable Offences Summary
Jurisdiction Act, 1894," which is as follows:—
"12. If any coin is tendered as current gold or silver coin
to any person who suspects the same to be diminished other-
wise than by reasonable wear, or to be counterfeit, such
person may cut, break, bend, or deface such coin, and if any
coin so cut, broken, bent, or defaced shall appear to be
diminished otherwise than by reasonable wearing, or to be
counterfeit, the person tendering the same shall bear the
loss thereof; but if the same be of due weight and appears
to be lawful coin, the person cutting, breaking, bending, or
defacing the same shall be bound to receive the same at the
rate at which it was coined.
"If any dispute arises whether the coin so cut, broken,
bent, or defaced is diminished in manner aforesaid, or
counterfeit, it shall be heard and finally determined in a
summary manner by any Justice of the Peace, who may
examine upon oath the parties, as well as any other person,
for the purpose of deciding such dispute.
"Every officer employed in the collection of Her Majesty's
revenue in New Zealand shall cut, break, or deface, or cause
to be cut, broken, or defaced, every piece of counterfeit or
unlawfully-diminished gold or silver coin which is tendered
to him in payment of any part of such revenue in New
Zealand."

Senior Examination of January, 1895, the period of literature
will be the first half of the nineteenth century, and the
special books will be Carlyle's "Sartor Resartus" and

Examination of Mine-managers.

A N examination of candidates for certificates as First-
and Second-class Mine-managers under "The Mining
Act, 1891," and "The Coal-mines Act, 1891," will be held
on Tuesday, the 29th January, 1895, and three following
days, at places to be hereafter named. All applications,
with necessary certificates, and fee of £1, must be addressed
to "The Secretary of the Board of Examiners under the
Mining Act or Coal-mines Act, Wellington," and must be
received before the 1st January, 1895, or they will not be
dealt with until the following examination.
