Terms and Conditions of Lease of Village Homestead Allotments in Canterbury.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this seventeenth day of July, 1894.

His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS by the one hundred and sixty-ninth section of "The Land Act, 1892," it is enacted that the Governor in Council may fix the terms and conditions upon which the lands in any village settlement shall be disposed of, subject as in the said section is provided: And whereas by a Proclamation made under the said Act on the seventeenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the nineteenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four, the lands described in the First Schedule hereto have been set apart under the said Act and declared open for lease as village settlements, and it is expedient to fix the terms and conditions upon which the said lands shall be disposed of:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred by the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby fix the terms and conditions on which the lands mentioned in the First Schedule hereto shall be disposed of by way of lease in perpetuity, and which said terms and conditions are set forth in the Second Schedule hereto, and also doth direct that the lands in the said village settlements shall be divided into village-homestead allotments only.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.

This section is situated in Chertsey Village Settlement, about three-quarters of a mile north-east of the railway-station of that name, and comprises open level land of fair quality, intersected by a county water-race. This section is weighted with a sum of £16 18s., being the value of dwelling-house and about 26 chains of fencing, which sum must be paid immediately the application has been approved or declared successful at the ballot.

This section is situated on the Main South Road, about a mile and a half north-east of Dromore, and comprises level grass land of fair quality, intersected by a county water-race. This section is weighted with a sum of £16 8s., being the value of fencing, which sum must be paid immediately the application has been approved or declared successful at the ballot.

These sections are situated adjacent to the junction of the Stour River with the south branch of the Ashburton River, and near to the Mount Somers Coal-pit, the distance from the Mount Somers township being about eight miles. Sections 1 to 4 are situated on the flat, and comprise soil of light quality, portions being somewhat swampy; sections 19 to 21 comprise steep hilly ground.

These sections are situated in the southern portion of the Nukuroa Village Settlement, at a distance of about three miles and a half south of Studholme Junction, and about five miles south-east of Waimate, and comprise flat agricultural land of good quality. Each section is weighted with a sum of £9, being the value of fencing, which sum must be deposited with the application, in addition to the usual deposit and fees.
