Deaths, occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 391, against 375 in March, an increase of 16. The deaths in April were 160, a decrease of 11 on the number in March. Of the total deaths, males contributed 86; females, 74. Fifty-eight of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 36Β·25 per cent. of the whole number; 46 of these were under 1 year of age. There were thirty deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: seven men of 65, 67, 74 (two), 76, 80, and 84, and one woman of 73 died at Auckland; three men of 74, 79, and 80, and two women of 78 and 87 at Wellington; four men of 67, 70 (two), and 74, and five women of 69, 73, 75 (two), and 88 at Christchurch; one man of 77 and seven women of 65, 66 (two), 69, 71, 77, and 78, at Dunedin.
