THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

All collections for competition must be delivered at the
office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government
Buildings, at Wellington, not later than the 31st December,
1893.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and
accompanied by a sealed envelope containing a copy of such
motto, together with the full name and address of the
exhibitor.
The unsuccessful exhibits will be returned to the owners
carriage-free.

THE date for receiving the collections mentioned in
Gazette Notice No. 365, and dated the 7th April, 1893,
has been extended to the 31st March, 1894.

Notice of Sale of the Cheviot Mansion-house and the
Lands and Buildings adjacent thereto.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by "The Cheviot Estate Disposition
Act, 1893," and of all other powers and authorities enabling
me in this behalf, I, John McKenzie, Minister of Lands for
the time being appointed under "The Land Act, 1892," do
hereby declare and determine that 5,000 acres of land
described in the Schedule hereto, together with the mansion-
house on the Cheviot Estate, and other buildings specified
in the said Schedule, will be offered for sale by public
auction, at Christchurch, on the 10th day of January, 1894,
at the upset price of £25,000.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area of land in the Land District of Canterbury,
containing by admeasurement 5,000 acres, more or less,
situated in Blocks VII. and IX., Cheviot Survey District,
and Block XVI., Lowry Peaks Survey District, and bounded
generally toward the east by the summit of the Seaward
Range to Mount Maccinnich, thence by the summit of a
spur to the River Jed at a point about 26 chains from its
mouth, by that river to a point about 1 chain above the
"Brothers," by a right line across the Jed to the dray-track
at its nearest part, by that track in a north-westerly direc-
tion to a fence which forms the eastern boundary of the
Dingle paddock, thence by that fence in a north-westerly
direction to the Jed River, thence by the right bank of that
river to a point north-west of where the western boundary-
line of Section 7, Block IX., Cheviot Survey District, meets
the Jed Road, thence by Section 7 aforesaid, and by Section
2, Block XI., Cheviot Survey District; towards the south-
west generally by Section 1, Block XI., Cheviot Survey Dis-
trict, Sections 17, 15, and 13, Block XVI., Lowry Peaks
Survey District; towards the west generally by the Home-
stead Road, the River Jed, the Pine-walk fence, and the
Woolshed Stream to Seddon Street, thence by the south
side of that street produced to the summit of a ridge about
18 chains from the said Woolshed Stream, by the summit of
that ridge to the gate near McQueen's Cottage, and thence
by a line to the summit of the Seaward Range: be all the
aforesaid distances more or less (excluding from the above-
described area all lands which may be required for public
purposes): together with the buildings thereon known as
the mansion-house, and the stables, water-supply, dairy,
apple-house, woodshed, store, strawberry-house, manager's
house, Marchlaw buildings, Sinclair's cottage, the black-
smith's and carpenter's workshops, the laundry, cowsheds
and yards, cart-shed, colt-house, and all other buildings and
erections of what nature soever upon the said land. Price
for the whole, £25,000.

Tenders for Mail-services between Tokaanu and Waiouru,
Waiouru and Pipiriki, and Waiouru and Mangaonoho.
General Post Office,
Wellington, 13th December, 1893.
SEALED Tenders will be received at the General Post
Office, Wellington, until noon of Wednesday, 27th
instant, for the conveyance by four-horse coach of mails
between the under-mentioned places for a period of two
years, and for an alternative period of three years from the
date of commencement of service:—
Tokaanu and Waiouru, twice weekly.
Waiouru and Pipiriki, weekly, connecting with the
Wanganui River steamer.
Waiouru and Mangaonoho, weekly, connecting with the
railway-trains at Mangaonoho.
In the event of a tender, or tenders, being accepted it
shall be optional with the department to require the service,
or services, to be run during the tourist season—from No-
vember to April—only, in each year, and to make a corre-
sponding reduction in the amount of subsidy, or to require
the service to be carried on continuously for the full con-
tract term.
The services must be carried out according to time-tables
framed by the department.
If required the services to commence within four weeks
from the date on which tenders accepted.
Forms of tender, with the terms and conditions of con-
tract, may be procured at any Chief Post-office.
No tender will be considered unless made on the printed
form.
Tenders to be indorsed "Tender for Tokaanu Mail-ser-
vice," and addressed to the Secretary, General Post Office,
Wellington.
The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares and Charges
in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise
and pursuance of the powers conferred by "The
Government Railways Act, 1887," do hereby make the fol-
lowing alterations in and additions to the scale of fares,
rates, and charges on the New Zealand Government Rail-
ways, to come into force on and after the 20th day of
December, 1893:—
PART IV.—GOODS: LOCAL RATES.
GREYMOUTH—HOKITIKA SECTION.
Goods of Classes E, F, and N will be charged as Class D.
Goods of Class Q will be charged as Class P.
Ships' goods, of Classes A, B, C, D, E, F, from Greymouth
to stations on the Hokitika line will be charged 8s. 6d. per
ton, weight or measurement, at the option of the depart-
ment, including wharfage and all charges.

Intestate Estates.

NOTICE.—It is hereby notified that, in pursuance of the
provisions of section 8 of "The Public Trust Office
Acts Amendment Act, 1893," the Public Trustee, having
elected to administer the property of the following persons,
who, so far as is known, have died intestate within the
Colony of New Zealand, did file his election in writing at
the Supreme Court Office, at the place stated after the name
of each such deceased person:—
John Baird, late of Milburn, in the Provincial District of
Otago. Filed at Dunedin on the 9th day of December,
1893.
Claude Argyle Napier, late of Timaru, in the Provincial
District of Canterbury. Filed at Wellington on the 5th day
of December, 1893.

Notice by Public Trustee under "The Unclaimed Lands
Act, 1892."
In the matter of a parcel of land containing by admeasure-
ment 18½ perches, more or less, situate in the Town of
Rangiora and Provincial District of Canterbury, being
the Lot 23, part of Rural Section 335, Mandeville District,
and Borough of Rangiora, having a frontage of 53ft. to
Queen Street by a depth of 99ft., of which the last regis-
tered owner was George Butler, late of Rangiora, de-
ceased.
WHEREAS the Public Trustee has been made aware of
the above-described land having no known owner,
and he, having made reasonable inquiry, can discover neither
