No. 6008.—25th January, 1893.—ALEXANDER JONES GRANT, of Ongaonga, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, Blacksmith. An invention for straining and splicing wire at any part of a wire-fence where the wire may be loose or broken without having to draw any staples, to be called "Grant's Strainer and Splicer."

No. 6013.—30th January, 1893.—JOHN TURNBULL, of Adelaide, South Australia, Ships' Agent. An invention for an improved apparatus for washing coal, applicable also for separating metalliferous ores and other substances of different specific gravities.

No. 6014.—30th January, 1893.—HERBERT CAVE, of No. 9, The Avenue, Windsor, near Melbourne, Victoria, Gentleman. An invention for an improved process and apparatus for destroying rabbits in rabbit-burrows.

Notice of Request to amend Specification.

A REQUEST to be allowed to amend the specification relating to the under-mentioned application for Letters Patent has been received, and is open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within one month from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing, in duplicate, of opposition to the amendment, stating in such notice the particular grounds of objection. A fee of 10s. is payable with such notice:—

No. 5909.—EDWARD NOYES, of 32, O'Connell Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Merchant. An invention for an improved clinch-rivet.

The nature of the proposed amendments is as follows:—

  1. By inserting after line 16, page 2, the words "I also prefer to cut out the slot by means of saws."

  2. By striking out the words "is longitudinally slotted" in the first claim, and inserting instead the words "has one or more longitudinal-tapered slots."

The applicant states that his reason for the amendment is "in order that the matter of the specification may be more simply and fully explained."
