The following remarks apply to the four principal boroughs only: The births in September were 216, against 253 in August—a decrease of 37. The deaths amounted to 116, against 141 in August—a decrease of 25. There were 8 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: 3 men of 65, 71, and 81, and 1 woman of 95, died at Auckland; 2 men of 67 and 72, at Wellington; and 2 women of 70 and 84, at Dunedin.
The death-rate per 1,000 persons living for each of the chief towns was lower in September than in August. Compared with September, 1892, the rates for last month were slightly higher at Wellington and Christchurch, but lower at Auckland and Dunedin:—
