to be Chief Registrar of Brands for the New Plymouth, Wanganui, and Rangitikei Branding Districts, to date from the 1st January, 1893, vice J. Drummond.

Results of Polls for Proposed Loans, Kumeroa Road Board, County of Waipawa.

THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Kumeroa Road Board, are published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

KUMEROA ROAD BOARD.

THE following is the result of a poll taken at Kumeroa on the 20th January, 1893, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £300, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of constructing the Otope Road:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll 7, representing 11 votes; number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal 5, representing 8 votes; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal 1, representing 2 votes; number of ratepayers who did not exercise their votes 1, being entitled to exercise 1 vote.

A majority in number of the ratepayers, exercising more than one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, having voted in favour of the proposal, I declare the said proposal to be carried.

KUMEROA ROAD BOARD.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on the 21st day of January, 1893, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £1,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of forming, metalling, and bridging a portion of the Mangatoro Valley Road :—

Number of ratepayers on special roll 10, representing 11 votes; number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal 8, representing 9 votes; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, nil; number of ratepayers who did not exercise their votes 2, being entitled to 2 votes.

A majority in number of the ratepayers, exercising more than one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, having voted in favour of the proposal, I declare the said proposal to be carried.

INDIA.—EAST COAST.—MADRAS PRESIDENCY.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER OF APPARATUS AND IN POSITION OF LIGHT.

It is intended within the next three months to substitute a third order dioptric double-flashing light of half-minute periods for the light now in use at the Madras lighthouse.

The new light will be exhibited from the top of the main tower of the new High Court buildings.

Information regarding the exact date of the exhibition of the new light will be afforded in due course.
