A REQUEST to be allowed to amend the specification relating to the under-mentioned application for Letters Patent has been received, and is open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within one month from the date of this Gazette, give me notice, in writing, in duplicate, of opposition to the amendment, stating in such notice the particular grounds of objection. A fee of 10s. is payable with such notice.

The nature of the proposed amendments is as follows:-

By substituting the words "Improvements in the preparation of certain" for the words "An improved substance or material for facing," where they occur in the title.

By inserting the word "sand" before, and the words "and for forming the cores" after, the word "moulds," in line 11.

By striking out the word "known," in line 16, and inserting in place thereof the words "of the class commonly termed."

By striking out the word "as," in line 16.

By substituting the word "afterwards" for the word "finally," in line 20.
-
By striking out the words "the desired fineness," in lines 20 and 21, and inserting in place thereof the words "a powder."

By substituting the words "crude stuff from the first reduction" for the words "powder then obtained," in line 21.

By substituting the words "during subsequent reductions" for the word "then," in line 23.

By inserting between the words "being" and "eliminated," in line 25, the word "gradually."

By the addition of a second claim as follows, namely:-
"2. In the preparation of the cores for moulds used in the casting of metals, the combination with clay or other suitable material of a substance obtained from a mineral known as soapstone, steartite, or steatite, such cores being afterwards, before use, washed over with a coating of the same substance substantially as herein described, and for the purpose indicated."
The applicant states as his reasons for the request, "I am advised that my invention is not sufficiently described in the original specification."
