A PROCLAMATION.

BY virtue and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the one hundred and seventy-second section of "The Land Act, 1892," and of every other power and authority enabling me in that behalf, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be subject to the provisions of sections one hundred and seventy-two to one hundred and eighty-six of Part V. of "The Land Act, 1892," relating to small grazing-runs.

Terms and Conditions of Lease of Village Homesteads in the Village Settlements in Otago.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of August, 1893.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and sixty-ninth section of "The Land Act, 1892," it is enacted that the Governor in Council may fix the terms and conditions upon which the lands in any village settlement shall be disposed of, subject as in the said section is provided: And whereas by Proclamations made under the said Act on the fifth day of January and twenty-second day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the twelfth day of January and twenty-seventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three, the lands described in the First Schedule hereto have been set apart under the said Act and declared open for lease as village settlements, and it is expedient to fix the terms and conditions upon which the said lands shall be disposed of:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred by the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby fix the terms and conditions on which the lands mentioned in the First Schedule hereto shall be disposed of by way of lease in perpetuity, and which said terms and conditions are set forth in the Second Schedule hereto, and also doth direct that the lands in the said village settlements shall be divided into village-homestead allotments only.

Generally speaking, this is fairly good agricultural land, rather broken and hilly, with tops of spurs even. The quality of the soil varies from poor mossy to very good. The land carries heavy timber—kamai, red-pine, silver-birch, &c.—and is well watered. Altitude, 300ft. to 500ft. above sea-level. Owaka lies within ten miles, and Glenomaru Railway-station seventeen miles, of these sections.
