THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Waimea County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

WAIMEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE following is the result of poll taken on the 10th August, 1893, on a proposal to raise a loan of £400, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” towards defraying the cost of constructing a horse-bridge across the Motueka River, in the Riding of Motueka:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 21, with 31 votes; number of ratepayers that voted for proposal, 15, with 23 votes; number who voted against, nil; number who did not vote, 6, with 8 votes.
As a majority of ratepayers, representing more than half the number of votes, voted for the proposal, I hereby declare the proposal carried.

PELORUS ROAD BOARD.

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Pelorus Road Board on the 14th day of June, 1893, and confirmed on the 13th day of July, 1893:—
“That a rate of 3d. in the pound be levied on the rateable value of the property as appearing on the valuation-roll now in force for Special District No. 1, constituted by special order, consisting of the Mahakipawa Subdivision, together with Sections 1, 2, and 46, Wakamarina Survey District, for a period of twenty-six years from the 1st day of August, 1893; to be an annually-recurring rate, payable in one sum in each year at the office of the Board, Havelock, on the 1st day of August, 1893, and each succeeding year, for the purpose of paying interest and charges on a loan of £600.
I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Notice to Mariners, No. 35 of 1893.

PRELIMINARY NOTICE.—LIGHT ON STEPHENS ISLAND, WESTERN ENTRANCE TO COOK STRAIT, NEW ZEALAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 18th August, 1893.

NOTICE is hereby given that about the month of January, 1894, a light will be exhibited from a lighthouse now being constructed at the northern end of Stephens Island, western entrance to Cook Strait.
The light will be a first-order group flashing white light, showing two flashes in quick succession every half-minute, and will be elevated about 600ft. above the level of the sea.
Further particulars, together with the date of lighting, will be given in a future notice.

BRISBANE RIVER.—DREDGED CHANNELS.

NOTICE is hereby given that a net depth of 15ft. now exists throughout the river between the town and the Outer Bar, and on the latter the minimum depth is 14ft. at low-water springs.
As the cuttings are only 100ft. wide, masters of vessels are cautioned to exercise great care, and to avoid as far as possible meeting another vessel in the cuttings, and to slow down to a low rate of speed at such distance from dredges and attendant plant as will insure their passing without causing any damage.
The magnetic bearings of the line of lights and beacons at Eagle Farm Flats and at the Inner Bar are now N. 25° E. and N. 23° 30′ E., respectively. The list giving the magnetic bearings of the different lines of leading beacons is to be corrected accordingly.

Notice to Mariners, No. 37 of 1893.

THE Bluff Harbour Board has given notice that the light-ship moored in the channel at the entrance to Bluff Harbour will be removed on the 31st instant for the purpose of being repaired, overhauled, and painted, and that while it is away a black buoy will be moored in its position without a light.

Notice to Mariners, No. 38 of 1893.

Wellington, N.Z., 23rd August, 1893.

THE Lyttelton Harbour Board notify that, in order to avoid injuring the cable which is laid across Lyttelton Harbour at the heads, vessels must anchor to the westward of the two white patches on the shore on the north and south sides of the harbour, or to the eastward of a line drawn in a line with the lighthouse and with the flagstaff on the South Head.
