HE following special resolution was passed at an extra-
ordinar general meeting of the shareholders, held at
the company's office, New Zelad Insurace Buildigs,
Auckland, on Thursday, the 22nd day of June, 1893:—
Resolved,— "That the Ower Gold-mining Company
(Lmited) be woud up volutarily, and that Mr. D. G. Mac-
Donell be appoited Lquidator."

OTICE is herby given that a petion for the windig-
up of the above-named company by the Supreme
Court was, on the 28th day of June, 1893, presented to Mr.
Justice Conolly, a Juge of the Supreme Court, by George
Roome McCrae of Chancery-street, Auckland, Cooer, a
creditor of the said company. And the said petion is
directed to be heard before a Juge of the said Court on
Friday, the 14th day of July, 1893, at the hour of 11
o'clock in the foreoon; and any creditor or contributory of
the said company desirous to oppose the making of an order
for the windig-up of the said company under the above
Act should appear at the time of hearing, by himself or his
counsel, for that purpose; and a copy of the petion will be
fumished to any creditor or contributory of the said company
requirig the same by the udersigned on payment of the
regulated charges for the same.

Te Makarini Scholaships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke's
Bay.

HREE scholarships of the yearl value of £35, tenable
for two years, are offered for competiton. One of
these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is
open to all Maoris under sixteen years of age at the end of
the month preceding the date of the examinatio; the other
two scholarships are juior scholarships, and are open to all
Maoris under fifteen years of age at the end of the month
preceding the date of the examinatio who have not been
pupis at Te Aute or St. Stephe's, and whose attendace
at school during the previous year is considered by the In-
spector of Ntive Schols to have been satisfactory. The
senior scholarship is offered for competiton among Maori
boys on the conditions lai down in the regulations of the
Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholaships Fund, as prited
in the Ntive Schols Code, 1893. Candidates for the
juior scholarships will be examied in the subjects specified
for Standard I. in the Ntive Schols Code, 1893. The
questios will, however, be more difficult than those set for
the standard examinatios. The examinatio will be held
at conveient centres on the 18th and 19th December, 1893.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers,
send notice to the Ispetor of Ntive Schols, Education
Department, Wellington, of their intention to present them-
selves for examinatio. Such notice must be posted not
later than the 31st October next.
Cooies of the regulations and forms of notice may be
obtained from teachers of Ntive schools and boardig insti-
tutions, the Secretaries to Education Boads, or the Secre-
tary for Education.

RIZES offered for collections of noxous wees and
insects, &c. :—
Collection of noxous wees: First priz, £10; second, £5.
All specimens must have been gatherd in the coloy.
Each specimen must be mountd on paper 18in. by 11in.,
and bear, if possible, the popular and scientific name, also
the locaity where gatherd.
Collection of insects injurios to New Zealad vegetation,
and their natural enemies and parsites: First priz, £10;
second, £5.
All insects must be properly set and named, also have
locaity tickets attached.
The collections winning the prizs to become the property
of the department, where they will remain on exhiition
with the name of the colletor affixed.
All collections for competiton must be deliverd at the
office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government
Buildigs, at Wellington, not later than the 31st December,
1893.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and
accompanid by a seaed envelope containing a copy of such
motto, together with the full name and address of the
exhibitor.
The unsuccesful exhibits will be returned to the owners
carriage-free.
