Regulations and Schedules for Printing and Stationery Department




  1. Females will be taken for the first three months on probation, at 5s. per week. Should they prove themselves capable and industrious, they will then receive the following rates of wages:—

Per Week.

Next three months ... 0 7 0
Following six months ... 0 8 0
Second year ... ... 0 10 0
Third year ... ... 0 13 0
Fourth year ... ... 0 17 0

After the fourth year they will be placed on pay as full hands, at wages ranging from £1 to £1 5s. per week, in accordance with nature of work and ability.

ALTERATION IN REGULATIONS.

  1. All rules or regulations may, subject to the approval of the Minister, be altered or amended from time to time as occasion may require.

BY-LAWS.

  1. The Government Printer shall have power, subject to the Minister's approval, to make, alter, or amend by-laws, not being inconsistent with these rules, for the internal regulation and discipline of the department, and to inflict fines or temporarily suspend employés from duty for breach of such by-laws. All fines to be deducted from the wages of the offender. In cases of suspension from duty, report shall be made to the Minister of the department, with the necessary recommendation as to the confirmation or otherwise of such suspension.

  2. All moneys received from fines shall be placed by the Government Printer in a common fund to be applied towards the expenses in connection with the annual picnic held by the employés.

SCHEDULE B.

The ordinary rate for composition, either solid or leaded, shall be 1s. 1d. per 1,000 ens. A special rate of 1s. 3d. per 1,000 ens will be allowed on works of a technical or scientific character; and a rate of 1s. 4d. per 1,000 ens for Hansard. The allowances on piece for table, tabular, and column matter usually recognised by the trade in New Zealand will be granted. Maori and all foreign languages to be paid one-third extra. Piece-hands put on time for less than a whole day will be allowed 1s. 6d. per hour; for a full day, 10s. These rates are liable to be modified from time to time, as circumstances may demand.
