regulations for the purpose of explaining the said recited
articles, and of removing the said doubt or misapprehension :
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by virtue of the powers
vested in her by the said Act, and by and with the advice of
her Privy Council, is pleased to direct that from the date of
this order the regulations contained in the Schedule to the
said Order in Council of the eleventh day of August, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, shall be further
modified by the addition to the said recited Article 3 of
the provisions contained in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

(e.) To insure that the red and green side-lights shall
show an uniform light from right ahead of the ship to two
points abaft the beam on the port and starboard sides re-
spectively, and shall not show across the bow of the ship
itself, the said lights must be fixed and the screens fitted so
that the rays from the red and green lights shall cross the
line of the ship's keel projected ahead of the ship at a reason-
able distance ahead of the ship.
With regard to all vessels whose lights are inspected by
the officers of the Board of Trade, the red or green side-light
will not be deemed to be fixed and fitted in accordance with
the regulations unless it is so fixed and screened that a line
drawn from the outside edge of the wick to the foremost end
of the inboard screen of such light shall make an angle of
4 degrees, or as near thereto as may be practicable, with a line
drawn parallel with the keel of the ship from the outside
edge of the wick.

Prizes for Collections of Noxious Weeds and Insects.—
Notice No. 365.

Department of Agriculture,
Wellington, 7th April, 1893.

PRIZES offered for collections of noxious weeds and
insects, &c.:—
Collection of noxious weeds: First prize, £10; second, £5.
All specimens must have been gathered in the colony.
Each specimen must be mounted on paper 18in. by 11in.,
and bear, if possible, the popular and scientific name, also
the locality where gathered.
Collection of insects injurious to New Zealand vegetation,
and their natural enemies and parasites: First prize, £10;
second, £5.
All insects must be properly set and named, also have
locality tickets attached.
The collections winning the prizes to become the property
of the department, where they will remain on exhibition
with the name of the collector affixed.
All collections for competition must be delivered at the
office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government
Buildings, at Wellington, not later than the 31st December,
1893.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and
accompanied by a sealed envelope containing a copy of such
motto, together with the full name and address of the
exhibitor.
The unsuccessful exhibits will be returned to the owners
carriage-free.

Prizes for Collections of Dried Specimens of Grasses and
Forage Plants.—Notice No. 369.

Department of Agriculture,
Wellington, 9th May, 1893.

PRIZES offered for collections of dried specimens of
grasses and forage plants, introduced and native, pro-
minence being given to the most useful indigenous species.
First prize, £25; second, £15.
All specimens must have been gathered in the colony.
Each specimen must be mounted on paper, 18in. by 11in.,
and bear, if possible, both popular and scientific names, also
the name of the locality where obtained.
The collections winning the prizes are to become the pro-
perty of the department, where they will remain on exhibi-
tion, with the names of the collectors affixed.
All collections for competition must be delivered at the
office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government
Buildings, Wellington, not later than the 31st March, 1894.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and be

The judges have power to withhold the prizes if they are

NOTICE.—NORMAN BAYLES, of 452, Collins Street, Mel-
bourne, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria,
has been appointed this day, by his Honour the Chief
Justice, a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zea-
land in Victoria, under the 2nd section of "The Commis-
sioners of the Supreme Court Act, 1875," for the purpose
of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and
affirmations as in the said section mentioned.
