proposa to borrw £1,200, under "The Government Loan
to Local Bodes Act, 1886," to form and metal the Chea
Road from the Mountin Road to the Skinner Road:-
Total number of ratepayers on special roll, 13; total
number of ratepayers' votes exercisab, 13; number of rate-
payers voting in favour of the proposal, 7; number of rate-
payers' votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 7; number

Notice to Local A uthorities under "The Government Loan
to Local Bodes Act, 1886."

The Treasur,
Wellington, 20th March, 1893.

PURSUANT to section 16 of "The Government Loan to
Local Bodes Act, 1886," the Colomal Treasurer herby
gives notice that on Wednesday, the 26th April, 1893, he will
be prepared to consider applications from Local Authoritie
for loan under the Act.
Applications should be addresed to the Colomal Treasurer,
and in the corner of the envelope the words "Local Bodes'
Loans" should be written; and every application must be
poted so as to arrve at the Treasur on or before the 25th
Apir, 1893.

Applications received between the present date and the
25th April next will be considered on the date mentioned
aboe.

Portion of a State Forset set apart for Labouers.

IN pursuance and exercise of the authorit yested in me
by section twent of "The New Zealnd State Forsts
Act, 1885," I, the Commisioner of State Forsts, do herby set
apart the portion of a State forest described in the Schedle
hereto, and situate within the Southland Land District, for
occupation by labouers emploed in connection with such
forest, subject to such regulations as may from time to time
be made by the Governer in Council as to the mode and
term of such occupatin under the said Act.

SCHEDLE.

ALL that area in the Southland Land District, containing
by admeasurment 913 acr and 30 perches, more or les,
sitaed in Block XXTI., Invercargill Hundred. Bounded
toward the north by Block VIL, Invercargill Hundred;
toward the east by Cown land and a public road, again
toward the north by Cown land, again toward the east
by Section No. 61, a road-line, and Section No. 49, again
toward the north by Sections Nos. 49, 48, 47, and 46;
toward the west by Section No. 46, a road-line, and Section
No. 54, again toward the north by Cown land, again
toward the east by Cown land, again toward the north by
a public road, again toward the east and north by Section
No. 38, again toward the east by Section No. 5, Block
XXIV.; toward the south generally by a public road, front-
ing the Seawar Bush Railway; toward the west by Section

Notice to Mariners, No. 8 of 1893.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the
Presidency Port Office, Madras, are published for
genera information.

ALTERNATION IN CHRACTER OF APARATUS AND IN POSTION
OF MDRAS LIGHT.

With reference to the previous notices to mariners on the
subject, dted respectively the 2nd September, 1892, and the
23rd November, 1892, it is now notied that the new light
will be exhibited on the 1st July, 1893.
2. Special attention is drawn to the following particulars
regardng the light, and the main toer of the Law Courts
from which it will be exhibited, vix:-
(a.) The light will be a third-oder dioptric double-flahing
white light of half-minut period, giving two flashes of about
to seconds, separatd by an eclipse of about three seconds,
folwd by a long eclipse of twnty-thr seconds, and should
be visible at a distance of twnty miles in clear weather from
N. by E. through W. to S. by W., or from all direction
seawar.
(b.) The main toer of the Law Courts from which the
light will be exhibited is an otagona structure of bric and
stone. It will be surmounded by a stone dome having a
cupola termination, on which the lantem, which will have
a gilded dome, will be placed. The toer is clearly distin-
guishable from searward.
3. The approximte position of the toer is lat. 13° 5' 13"
N., long. 80° 16' 52" E.
4. The height above high water of the centre of the
lantem will be 166ft.
5. It is intended to dismantle the existing lighthouse as
son as possible after the exhibion of the new light.
