Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection, after the lapse of a period of not less than thirty days from the date of the first public notification hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, in the manner and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at the price per acre stated in the said Schedule.

Weighted with £180 for about 490,000 superficial feet of totara timber. This section is situated on the eastern bank of the Oroua River, in the Oroua Coal-creek Block, and comprises flat land of excellent quality, admirably suited for occupation by gardeners or small farmers. The best access is from Feilding, via the Kimbolton and Lundon’s Oroua Branch Road, a distance of about twenty-two miles from Feilding. It is reported that fire has run through a portion of the forest on this section.

Hilly bush country; fair soil.

This section comprises hilly forest and scrub, with birch, and open and flat land in parts; the soil in some of the valleys is fairly good, but in many parts stony; the area is generally fairly well watered. The block is situated in the Kiriwakapapa Valley, at the back of Campbell’s and Harris’s farms, in the Upper Waipoua District, about twelve miles from Masterton.

Hilly and mountainous country, covered with birch, rata, &c.; soil varies from poor to good. Situated to the south of Cross Creek Railway-station, Western Lake District.

These sections comprise broken, hilly country of papa formation, covered with mixed bush, including birch, kahikatea, rimu, matai, maire, rewarewa, some totara and rangiora; and on Section 300 light manuka scrub. The soil is fair, and the country well watered.

These sections comprise some fairly level and rough mountainous country, covered with mixed bush. The soil is poor to fair. The access is by a metalled dray-road from the Carterton Railway-station, via Gladstone, to Cooper’s station, about nineteen miles, and thence by unformed surveyed roads.

These sections comprise hilly country, covered with birch, rata, &c.; soil poor to good. Situated to the south of Cross Creek Railway-station, Western Lake District, South Wairarapa.

Additional Rules of the Native Land Court, made under “The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1892.”

GLASGOW, Governor.

WHEREAS by “The Native Land Court Act, 1886,” as amended by “The Native Land Court Act 1886 Amendment Act, 1888,” and “The Native Land Court Acts Amendment Act, 1889,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, subject to the approval of the Governor in Council, from time to time to make rules for regulating the sittings, practice, forms, and procedure of the Court, and for the government of all persons acting under the said first-mentioned Act, and for fixing the fees to be paid under the said first-mentioned Act, the time and mode of payment, and for enforcing the payment thereof, and such rules from time to time by other rules to alter or revoke:

And whereas by “The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the said last-mentioned Act shall be read together with “The Native Land Court Act, 1886,” and the several Acts amending the same; and it is expedient that rules should be made in respect of the procedure to be observed under “The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1892:”

Now, therefore, I, Hugh Garden Seth-Smith, the Chief Judge of the said Court, do hereby, in exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Acts, make the rules following, which shall be read together with the rules of the Native Land Court dated the fourteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety, and the sixth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety:—

RULES.

  1. In these rules “the said Act (1892)” shall mean “The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1892.”

  2. All applications for inquiry under the said Act (1892) must be forwarded in duplicate to the Registrar of the Court in the District of Wellington, at his office in Wellington.

  3. Each application must be in writing, and must be signed by the applicant, and have annexed thereto a translation in the Maori language, certified as correct by a licensed interpreter. Each application must describe the land by name or otherwise, and the district of the Registrar
