Notice of Rehearing.—Mangaohane Block.
Native Land Court Office,
Wellington, 1st November, 1892.
I N the matter of a decision of the Native Land Court made on the 10th day of March, 1885, upon the investigation of the title to the Native land known as Mangaohane, and of the application of Ema Retimana and others for a rehearing of such investigation, made within three months after the said decision:
Whereas upon inquiry in open Court before Hugh Garden Seth-Smith, Esquire, Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, it was ordered, on the 4th day of April, 1892, that a rehearing be had on the application of Ema Retimana and others, as amended on the application of Rena Maikuku, for the purpose of determining whether Rena Maikuku and any other persons who may allege that they are interested therein under the same ancestral and occupational claims as are put forward by the said Rena Maikuku ought to be declared entitled according to Native custom (in addition to the persons who have already been declared to be so entitled) to a share or interest in that part of the said Mangaohane Block named Mangaohane or Mangaohane No. 2, that is to say, that part of the land originally called Mangaohane which is bounded on or towards the north by the parts of the said block which has been named by the Court Mangaohane No. 1, and on or towards the south by the line which was laid down by the Court on the 10th day of March, 1885, as the southern boundary of the portion then adjudicated upon:
And whereas the conditions upon which the rehearing was ordered as aforesaid have been complied with:
Now notice is hereby given that a sitting of the Native Land Court will be held at Hastings, on the 1st day of December, 1892, to rehear and determine in respect of the several matters before mentioned.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.
T HREE scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maoris under sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination; the other two scholarships are junior scholarships, and are open to all Maoris under fifteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have not been pupils at Te Aute or St. Stephen’s, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory. The senior scholarship is offered for competition among Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Native Schools Code, 1886, and in the supplementary regulations that have been sent out to all teachers. Candidates for the junior scholarships will be examined in the subjects specified for Standard IV. in the Native Schools Code, 1886. The questions set will, however, be more difficult than those given at the standard examinations. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 19th and 20th December, 1892.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted not later than the 31st October next.
Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary for Education.
