A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS in the contract bearing date the third day
of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
eight, made between Her Majesty the Queen and the New
Zealand Midland Railway Company (Limited), it is, among
other things, provided that, subject to the conditions therein
contained, all lands within the limits of the authorised area
defined in the said contract shall be available for selection
by the company, with certain exceptions: And whereas
among such exceptions are included all lands which from
time to time, in the opinion of the Governor, are or may be
required for bona fide mining purposes and the several pur-
poses connected therewith or incidental or conducive thereto,
and which lands shall from time to time be set apart and
defined by Proclamation to be issued in that behalf; but
no more than ten thousand acres shall be so set apart or
proclaimed in one block at any one time, and the lands so
set apart and proclaimed from time to time shall not, in the
aggregate, exceed seven hundred and fifty thousand acres:
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, the lands
described in the Schedule hereto are required for bona fide
mining purposes and the several purposes connected there-
with, and the said lands are comprised in one block, con-
taining nine thousand acres: And whereas it is expedient
the said land should be set apart and defined by this Pro-
clamation:
Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
all powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf under
the hereinbefore-mentioned contract or otherwise, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the block of land defined and
described in the Schedule hereto is set apart under the
provisions of the said contract for bona fide mining purposes
and the several purposes connected therewith.
SCHEDULE.
Block LIII.: All that area in the Nelson Land District,
situated in Reef ton Survey District, containing 9,000 acres,
more or less. Bounded by a right line commencing at the
eastern corner of Section No. 50, Block VII., Reef ton Survey
District, and proceeding due east to a line drawn from Trig.
Station HH to Trig. Station G, Reef ton Survey District;
then ce by a right line to the latter trig. station; thence by
a line drawn in the direction of Trig. Station N, Reef ton
Survey District, for a distance of 90 chains; thence by a line
running westerly to the north-eastern corner of Section No.
61, Block X., Reef ton Survey District; thence by a line
running due north across the River Waitahu to its right
bank; thence westerly along the said bank to the eastern
boundary of Section No. 40, Block X., Reef ton Survey Dis-
trict; thence by the eastern and northern boundaries of said
Section No. 40, and the northern boundaries of Sections Nos.
41, Block X., Reef ton Survey District, 168, 166, 250, 259, and
248, Square 131, to the western corner of Section No. 245,
Square 131; thence by the road forming the south-eastern
boundary of Section No. 2, Square 131, to the northern
corner of Section No. 245; thence by the northern boundary
of Section No. 2 to the western corner of Section No. 58,
Square 131, Block V., Reef ton Survey District; thence by
the south-eastern side of the Reef ton-Westport Road to a
point distant 9 chains from the western corner of Section No.
38, Square 131, Block VI., Reef ton Survey District; thence
by a line to the western corner of Section No. 3, Block VI.;
thence by the southern and south-western boundaries of
Sections Nos. 3 and 2, Block VI., 241, 242, and 243,
Square 131, Sections Nos. 36, 37, and 99, Block XI., and
Section No. 199, Square 131, to the southern corner of the
last-mentioned section; thence by the eastern boundary of
the said Section No. 199 and its production to Boatman's
Creek; thence by that creek and Little Boatman's Creek to
a point opposite the eastern corner of the Township Reserve
of Capleston; thence by a line across the latter creek to the
said corner; thence by the northern boundary of Township
Reserve to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 23, Block
XI.; thence by the eastern, northern, and western bound-
aries of that section and the north-eastern boundaries of
Sections Nos. 243, 242, 241, 178, 177, 231, 230, 180, 179, 229,
228, and 227, Square 131, Block VI., Reef ton Survey District,
to the southern corner of Section No. 29, Square 131; thence
by the south-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 29, 26, 23,
18, 16, 14, 12, 11, 10, and 8 to the western corner of Section
No. 26; thence by the south-western and south-eastern
boundaries of the last-mentioned section to the left bank of
Larry's Creek, and by that bank to a point due south of the
southern corner of Section No. 50, Block VII., Reef ton Sur-
vey District; thence by a line across Larry's Creek to the
said corner, and by the eastern boundary of the said Section
No. 50 to the point of commencement: excepting from the
above-described area all freehold and leasehold sections and
reserves.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow; Knight
Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and
Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government
House, at Wellington, this fourteenth day of July,
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun-
dred and ninety-two.
